Borla 40670 muffler install 5.0 screw

So I decided it's time to get rid of my 14" sido magnaflow and go with a 19" sido borla pro xs. I can't stand the rasp sound the magnaflow is putting out on higher rpms plus it's a tad bit onthe drone side, I've almost only read good things about the borla mufflers, so I'm really excited to hear it on the 5.0 as I only found a few 5.0's with borla muffler swaps on YouTube. This should solve at least a little of the drone and the raspy cackle sound, when I get it installed I'll be posting a video and review.

Do you have your resonator removed? I am looking at the same muffler for my truck and will probably order it in about another week.

Muffler ordered and should be here middle of the week. Now I will just need to cut out of work early to make it by the exhaust shop for the install. Plan to run duals out the passenger side behind the rear tire.

So I'm now 100% sure what I'm doing, going to do this right once and for all. I've now realized that the 2.25" tailpipes are part of my raspy tone problem now, so I returned the 40670 borla and ordered the 40349 with 2.5" exits. I am also re-doing the tailpipes and mid pipe with stainless steel piping instead of aluminized steel which I have now. So this system will acutally last especially since I live in Ohio (salty roads all winter). I will be posting a video and reviewing in about a week, I am planning on getting it all installed this friday. Here is the cost break-down:

-Summit Racing 3" diam. 409 stainless pipe (for mid pipe): $37
-Borla Pro XS 40349 muffler: $105 Streetside Auto
-2 Summit Racing 12" stainless tips: $70
-Estimated labor plus 409 stainless dual tailpipes: $320

I got mine installed today. Left the resonator on. Ran dual tips out behind the passenger tire. Its not very loud and just a little rumble over stock so you can tell its a little something. No drone while highway cruising but may remove the resonator.

Do it ! It will open it up a lot more but still should not have any kind of terrible drone.

Glad to hear, you should make a video of it would love to hear how it sounds. Does it still hold the tone all the way through the rpm range or does it get raspy ?

I have not reved it up much or got on it. Just came home from the shop. It does get quite when just cruising around town at 40-50 mph.

So it's done, the new custom exhaust is in, just as listed above, here are some pictures for now, video to come. First impressions, amazing work. I have to give props to Steves Auto Service in Cuyahoga Falls, OH for some crazy good pipe bending skills, all mandrel bent too! There are easily less than half of the crazy bends the other shop did on my first system. This place is well worth the money, ended up being a little less than I thought too.

Now for the sound, first of all I am happy to say (from what I can tell driving in cab) the rasp is gone! I was expecting it to be a little more quieter than it is, has the same volume as my system before if not a hair more, guess the slightly larger muffler with the larger pipes kept that the same. I am not too sure from just in cab driving, but I think the tone got a tiny bit deeper. It sounds the same in cab as before too I believe, not much change there which is honestly ok with me, I am already used to a little bit of drone. I swear I noticed my fuel economy is more responsive on my gauge screen too. Overall it just seems a little smoother driving it. Hope this helps to anyone looking for a system like this!
