Talking Pls help! Should I get this?

Ok I have a 98 2wd f150 V6. There is a sale on exhaust systems, but i know very little when it comes to exhaust. So.....should I get this. Here's what there offering: Single in Dual out, flowmaster 40 or Lifetime guaranteed Magnaflow Muffler. 2 1/4" 14ga. aluminized tail pipes/ chrome tips inc. All hardware and labor included..$350. Well thats what there offering. Pls let me know if I should get this or will i be wasting my money. And can you explain 14ga. & 2 1/4"? If i should get it....then great, it saves me time and research, if i shouldn't get it then pls recommend a specific set up.

Thanks for your inputs.

Thumbs up Sounds good to me............

14 guage is thicker then 16 guage pipe. 12 guage is thicker then 14............... The 2.25" is the diameter of the pipe. You'll hear most speak of getting 2.5" or 3" dia pipe, but for your case, I'd stick with the 2.25. This is because, with a V6, you'll need to keep some backpressure to actually get you more power at lower rpm's. Especially, since you are going with a dual out setup. V8's need the backpressure too. They will usually run 2.5" for dual setup and 3" for a single pipe system.

$350 is a good price. Especially for Hawaii!! I've not been there for many moons, but have always heard that it's alot more expensive then the "main land".

It's a good setup.

I have a similar system with 2.25" pipes and 4" tips. It sounds very nice at startup.Like a race car. Then it quiets down untill you step on the gas hard.

The 2.25" pipes gave me a lot more low end torque. My truck accelerates from a stop with much less effort. You should be quite pleased.

I would however advise agaist the Chrome tips and pay the extra for Stainless Steel as they will last a lot longer.

By getting this system, does it void my warranty? Did your warranty get voided?

Shouldn't void the warranty at all. Unless the aftermarket part can be proven to have caused the failure. So, if you need warrany work, for example, the tranny fails, they can't say that the entire vehicles warranty is void because of the exhaust.

Talking true duels?

I assume the term "true duels" mean that theres actually two mufflers rather that having one muffler that doubles out (single in dual out). Am i right? Is true duel set up for me or for v8's? Or should i get the single in dual out? Is there a huge difference?

stick with single muffler (in my opinion)

Mana-
I had a V-6 before I got my V-8.
the V-6 was definitly short on low end torque, I would stick with the single muffler set up, I would be very leary about switching to the true dual set up with out compensating for the potential torque loss.

OR
you could go to the true dual set up, (no h-pipe or X-pipe required due to even fire'ing order of the V-6) and get a new set of rearend gears to make up for any loss of low-end torque.

I think a new exhaust set up will help a little on power, but if you want to see a bigger bang for your buck for the V-6, get new gears, no matter what exhaust set-up you go with......
I would recomend 3.55, I think the next step up would be 3.75, but I'm not sure, I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I wouldn't go any higher than that........
