Water Leak from Resonator 2013 FX4
Water Leak from Resonator 2013 FX4
About 3 weeks ago I started to notice a large amount of water (like 2 feet by 1 foot) on my garage floor after I pull out in the morning (see pics below). I start my truck, no water leakage. I put it in reverse (not moving) then back to park, water leakage coming from near the resonator. A lot of water leakage in my opinion. This only seems to happen in the morning. I park the truck at work all day and it doesn't happen there. BUT it has happened every single morning for the past 3 weeks or so.
It's a 2013 FX4 Supercab with a 5.0 V8. I live in Canada where the lows have been around 0 Celsius (a bit warmer in my garage - not attached or insulated) and highs of around 5 Celsius. So obviously I'm not running the AC. I live in the country so my driving routine Monday to Friday is drive 40 KM to work on a paved highway, then 40 KM back home. Almost never stop. Just for gas.
So I took it in to the dealer and they say this is totally normal. Yet anyone I ask (including several F150 owners) say they have never seen this happen to their vehicle - except the occasional small water drips when using AC in the summer. All think it's excessive.
Here is what is written on my invoice from the dealer:
Ran engine and inspected under vehicle for water leaking from exhaust. Upon inspection found that there is water running out of drain holes in resonator. This condition is considered to be normal operation of the exhaust system. Water vapour and condensation are considered to be a byproduct of combustion and temperature related physics of the exhaust system. Ford has encorporated drain holes at various low points in the exhaust system to allow for excess moisture to drain out and not deteriorate the exhaust system internally. Short trips/engine run times should be avoided as the exhaust temperature in these cases does not reach a sufficient temperature to evaporate the condensation fully, and thus it collects in the exhaust system. Condition is normal.
I would really value your opinions on this and especially those, if any, experiencing the same issues. I wonder what will happen when the temp drops to - 40 Celsius? Which is right around the corner for me. Is this normal? Do I have anything to worry about?
Thanks!
