LT header kit

I got this kit off ebay its similar to the OBX LT headers and there are 3 bolt triangle collectors on the cat resonators but none on the headers not sure if I should cut the collectors off and just weld it together? Only problem is the headers are 3" and the resonators are 2.5.

here are the pics:

Thanks guys:

Shaun,

Ya that's weird my headers came with the triangle collectors on both headers and resonators.

I guess the best thing to do would be to buy a different set but since you already bought those get a reducer that goes to 2.5" then you will have to get cats that weld on.

They might make cats that are weld on that go from 3" to 2.5".

If all of that came as one kit, I'd return it. That seems super sketchy that someone would sell that as a kit. It would make me question the quality of the product.

If you can't or don't want to return it, you'll just have to get a reducer and have it all welded up

What are they for Shaun? Year, 4wd or 2wd ?

Would you have to send them back ? Those will be about 50 plus to send back, - unless the seller will pay for return shipping ; Yea , I doubt that, - not on eBay lol.

Yea, most Magnaflows you can cut the collar out of to convert them to a 3" slip fit if they aren't already. They do have 3x2.5's you can purchase new without a need to modify.

Well if your stuck with them, I wouldn't run those resonators unless you planned to tune it. There's no need for a tune if you run full OX compliant Mags.

Then I'd Tig those. You could Mig them up as well.

Yea, that Y is for a different collector set up. A 2.5 collector header, not a 3". But you could make them work if need be.

Hey guys just wanted to give you an update that I got the exhaust off and now its time to remove the studs. During removal the front two of the passenger side broke 1/4" in, that might be the reason my engine sounded like crap. I got a right angled drill and lets hope I can get them out and not snap any others off. Going to put two nuts on and lock them together while heating the area with map gas torch. That should help I hope. Pic of my exhaust is in my garage.

Yea a little heat will break down the dissimilar corrosion. The corrosion came from the nut for the most part. SS studs with raw steel nuts. Yea, they went cheap on the nuts.

Strange they broke in front first tho. Usually it's the back two. That's an 05 isn't it ? , - Yea, I'm not sure what the norm is on the 05's.

Good Luck!

My front 2 on the pass side gave me fits and there wasn't any room for heat or welding a nut. I wasn't able to get 2 nuts to lock together strong enough to twist those two studs out, but good luck to ya! I'm sure heat would've helped had there been room . . .

Got all the studs out with vise grips, map gas and Kroil. Started drilling out front two last night, helps with the PS of the engine still jacked up. This is the 5.4 engine. Now only two broken studs and a dip stick in my way, any tips on getting that out?

I noticed last night how easy the valve cover bolts could be access through the wheel well, think that's the way I'm going when I tackle my cam phasers.

I had to have a shop remove 2 studs for me, and I had them remove the dipstick as well. It was in there pretty good, but Alldata says it can be plucked straight out

Got both broken studs out yesterday with a right angled drill left handed drill bits and spiral extractor. Got the passenger side LT in. Now that one is in I'm starting to see how I'll need to do some modding to make this so called kit to fit right.
