Price to install Borla XR-1? Ready to pull trigger, need advice

Ordered the Borla XR-1 for my 2012 F150 5.0, along with a 4inch tip. Once it arrives I want to get it on asap and was curious of what you guys think is fair pricing to do the following:

Remove resonator and replace 2.5" pipe with 3"
Install Borla in place of stock muffler
Run 3" from muffler to tip
Install tip

It's just a si/so setup. I've had 1 shop quote me roughly $160 to do the work but I honestly have no idea what is fair here since my last exhaust was just straight piped and dumped before axle for $40... not doing that again.

Thanks for the help and will post pics/sound clips once on. Will do a video for sound while using the select shift so you can really here how this beast grinds through the gears, rather than stock shift points.

I had this exact same setup put on my 2013 yesterday. Cost me $65.00 for everything. It's going to vary from shop to shop, so I would suggest calling local muffler shops and get pricing. 160.00 seems high to me...

prices for doing exhaust work are going to vary....my best advice is to keep calling around....

BTW...some exhaust shops get but hurt when you supply the parts....sometimes they jack the labor up because they ain't making a dime on their products...

pricing wise im not sure..but 3" pipe comes out of stock so i'd keep that..im going for same setup when i get $$$ for all of it..but 3" flanged coming off factory Y so 3" pipe from factory Y all the way to 3" i/o maggie or sumthing then stock 3" pipe out of muffler to rear fact. location..just a thought of how you could do it

Thank you guys for the quick responses and really appreciate the help. Steele, sounds like you got a great deal and I'll be checking with a few more shops to find a good price, but still someone I feel comfortable with doing a quality job.

I'm still confused as to what the exact stock pipe dimensions are since I've seen some people say 2.5" and other say 3". Anyone know FOR SURE which is accurate? Or is it indeed that they change throughout the system? I've thought about picking up a resonator delete and installing that myself in case I ever want to return that part to stock, but still unsure with that as well if the outlet on the muffler side will be the correct diameter to fit into the Borla (3inch)...

Learning here and just want to make sure I get it right the first time! Thanks.

This is the response i got when i asked a similar question "If i remember correctly it's 3" just after the y then turns to 2.5" before and after the resonator into the muffler then 3" after the muffler."

I'm not sure what kind of tone you are looking for, but the XR-1 sounds amazing, espically on the 5.0. It's deep and aggressive, but once you are in 6th gear you won't even realize that you have aftermarket exhaust. My part number is 40085. Just my .02

Very helpful and after looking under the truck tonight that's definitely what it is. I've listened to plenty of videos to know this is the sound I want, and can't wait to get it done. Will shop a few more places and hopefully can get it installed next week. Steele do you have any pics or videos of yours yet?

Thanks Brute and will definitely let you guys know when it's on.

Just realized it's time to change my signature... been in the new truck for 7 months now!

No pictures or videos yet, it's been raining every day since i got it on. I will try to get something up this weekend.

What is your Borla part number?

One thing i did notice was that my "miles to empty" gauge has been dropping dramatically since i put the exhaust on. Not sure if that is just from the truck getting adjusted to the new muffler and resonator being removed, but it's kind of strange. It could be from me just having a lead foot, but if it keeps it up i may have to take it in to get checked out.

Weather's been nice in FL so been on the water fishing! Hope to get mine done by the end of this coming week.

Got the Borla 40085 (round) which I've heard is the better route than the oval. Trusted others opinions and liked the videos I've heard. I'm pretty confident I'll be happy with the sound.

Keep me updated on the MTE being weird. Are you only noticing it on the digital reading or does it also seem like your actual gas gauge is dropping quicker as well? The only change to the exhaust system piping is swapping that 2.5 inch pipe where the resonator is to 3 inch and I can't think that will drop the mpg. The muffler itself should have no effect on mpg either. Hopefully it's just adjusting to the new setup and will be back to normal soon.

Bhall, i added pictures and a short video to my thread today.

That is the same part number I got as well, I'm sure you will be extremely satisfied by the way it sounds.

The MTE is back to normal, i think it was just adjusting to the new muffler. I might actually be getting better mpg's with the new exhaust, got 18.1 mpg's from OK - AR (240 mile round trip).

That video sounds great and I love how it is such a smooth tone rather than all sorts of crackly. My old straight piped 2008 sounded like a funny car at the drag strip. Take any video of revving or drive by etc.? The fact that you just got yours done and are loving it is just a tease for me while I wait a few more days to get mine on! Going shop shopping tomorrow to figure out where I want it done and will set up an appointment.
