Hi all. I bought a 2004 f150 with the 5.4 about a year ago. The truck has aftermarket exhaust and sounds good but i'm ready to go louder. The truck has true duals but has 4 mufflers. Each pipe has a magnaflow 14 inch oval body muffler and a dynomax bullet right after that. Would I increase the sound much by removing one of these mufflers? Also what about removing the second set of catalytic converters? What are the Pros and Cons of each?

More mufflers = more muffling. If I were you, start with removing the mangnaflow mufflers and leave the cats and bullet mufflers there. Then if its not loud enough we can get louder by removing the rear cats.

 

Thats what I figured but im also looking for what will give me the best tone. The tone of the exhaust is currently very deep and has a nice rumble which I would like to keep just make it louder. Also about how much louder should i expect the truck to be if I were to cut the magnaflows off?

Trial and error is about the only way to get exactly what you want here. My opinion, somebody else's and yours will all very.

It will be louder for certain, but how can I accurately describe how much louder, and then your evaluation of how much louder will be different anyway.

Long story short, try it. They can be welded back together.

On another note, it will be louder the way I suggested compared to removing the bullets and leaving the magnaflow a on. Hence the larger muffler being quieter.
