k&n or volant intake?

Which is better k&n or volant intake ?

BLUE MAGIC 08-03-2012 12:53 AM

I have the k&n Cai,and seeing the volant makes me regret buying mine. I like the closed enclosure, much cleaner look imo,as for performance gains,I think they both offer 10hp..on my 4.6 though. at the end of the day its your money, buy what you like

AEM Brute Force. Don't have to worry about oiling the filter!

I've always like K&N products. I had an AEM Brute Force last, completely regret that decision. I had a weird harmonic that would drone and kind of shake the whole cab at around 2,200 - 3,000 RPM under a medium to heavy load. I put it on after I had a custom exhaust ran, so I'm sure that had an effect, but the drone and shake only happened after the I installed the intake. Just my $0.02 though.

Why not just do the Gotts mod and use a K&N replacement filter?

Thanks but i think ill go with the volant looks better

What are you putting it on? You may need custom tunes, depending on the engine and year.

K&N no brainer hands down

Harley blower
Never heard of a custom tune for intake .......

volant all the way, get the power core filter for it, last 100,000 miles, no oiling like k&n, enclosed housing, keeps hotter air out.

Most 04-05 5.4s need a custom tune when an after market CAI is added or they will run lean. Also, anytime the aftermarket intake changes the position of the MAF, a custom tune is needed for proper A/F ratio.

Bluejay is 100% correct, I didn't pay attention to these guys when I put the K&N intake on my 05 and it ended up costing me over $750 in plugs and repairs from running too lean. I should have spent the money up front and got an upgraded programmer but didn't and it ended up costing me more int he long run. Just put a quality high flow filter and the GOTTS mod, will do the same thing.

K&N 77 series with the seperator

mitch150 08-06-2012 04:04 AM

I've had the Volant for 5 years now and couldn't be happier, though I had to get a custom programmer for it because it developed a detonation issue almost immediately and I had to take it back off until I got the programmer in hand, was going to get a programmer for the truck anyway as these trucks ('04 -'08) really need one to "wake" them up anyhow. Couldn't be happier with the decision I had made, and I could still do gotts mod if I wanted since I saved all the old air stuff form putting the Volant on it
