Very hard to get that wrong. 97-03 run the same O2's front and back. Part numbers can distinguish up or downstream, but either will work where-ever.
Other than that, different part numbers = different harness lengths.
Yes, you may have to shave a **** off the connector if necessary. No biggy, the connector will still lock and seal.
Pass-side is a little bit of a challenge. You can still do it with just a 7/8 wrench. Harbor freight sells the Ford O2 socket for 3 bucks or so. Well, they use to anyway.
Keep at it, you'll get it.
