Best Intake for 3v 4.6?????
Best Intake for 3v 4.6?????
Looking for a cold air intake for a 3v 4.6 in a 2009 f150. Everything I find is just a direct bolt on kit that require no tune. Obviously, like most know, that doesnt really add anything. Im looking for a cold air intake that has a bigger MAF housing, and requires a tune to be used. I am having trouble finding anything for a 3v 4.6 that will add some extra horse power. Thanks, Jared
2009 4.6 3V has a performance intake tube from the factory so all you need is the cone filter and box. You will see HP gains on the dyno maybe better than 10 HP. If you have gobs of power adders, you can build a custom intake kit and buy an aftermarket MAF like Granatelli.
Performance intake tube? Im still getting used to the different things on these 3v trucks vs the 3v 4.6 mustang I came from. Too bad a person couldnt swap intake, throttle bodies, and cai from a mustang onto the truck 4.6. Im sure a person could but I bet trying to tune it afterward would be a nightmare!
Dyno results from intake additions
Has anyone on this site posted dyno results after adding the intake and a tune? The factory induction appears to have minimal resistance. Air is coming from the fender. I have read all about the gotts mod and did it on my old truck but I have no proof other than the butt dyno that it contributed to performance. Just curious and looking for a "scientific" answer on this one before I go spend $300 on the setup.
Waste of money.
The Stocker already outflows yer engine's needs by a fair margin. Adding a different filter will net you Zero gains.
- Adding a different MAF ( remember, it's a Slot-style unit) will also net you Zero gains.
- Swapping out the entire intake will cause you to spend $400 on a custom tune to correct for whatever you are replacing it with since it WILL induce a lean condition due to MAF relocation. And you still will only see tangible gains from the tuning, not the intake.
I dunno what vehicle 4.2 is referring to , but it sure ain't yours. 10 hp ??? LOL - ain't gonna happen.
Save the $$$ and put it Towards a proper custom tuned programmer.

C'mon, fellas - please do the research it's ALL very well documented on this site. Thanks!
