I was wondering what benefits you all have had from the Y pipe install. How much, and where?

Hi FORDTRK,

I bought my FlowMaster Y (dual 2 1/2" in / 3" out) for $29.99 plus shipping at:
http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/
I had it welded in place at Orange County Muffler in Newport Beach. The owner of the shop said it wasn't necessary to buy the aftermarket Y, as he, or any good shop, has adaptors that do the same thing for a little less money.
Results are noticeable deeper tone due to less restriction on the driver's exhaust side and improved performance. The driver's side pipe drops down to the passenger pipe and is saddle-welded over it. The torch-cut opening in the passenger side (to accomodate the driver side pipe) is the restrictive area (measured out at 1 3/4" x 1 1/2"). The Y, of course, permits 2 full opening 2 1/2" pipes into a single 3". I believe a good shop price to make up a Y and install it would be in the $75-100 range in SoCal. Make sure they have a mandrel pipe bender.
Would I do again for $100? In a heartbeat.
