Do not get a gibson
I've already been in contact with Mike thats where i got the $1500(+) for LT headers price. You think 650 is bad for a cat back kit theirs is over $1100. I bet it's a nice set up but my wallet can't handle it.
Actually, I'm having a very similar problem such as yours, rocus. I ordered an aFe exhaust system from www.4wheelonline.com made especially for a 2011 Ford F150 with 5.0 liter engine. I could have gotten it directly from aFe power, but it was around $90 - $100 cheaper thru 4wheelonline for some reason. It also came unwelded which is what I expected and the aFe stainless tubing/muffler clamps work very well - I'm pleased with them. At the present time I have installed the mid-pipe (directly behind the cat converters and meant to take the place of the resonator) and have installed the muffler too. You can't go wrong installing the muffler, it will only fit in one place. As per instructions, I had to cut a few inches off the mid-pipe to make it fit properly. Next, I started on the tailpipe - THIS is where I ran into problems, the hanger bracket is not welded on in the right position and NO I'm not imagining, it will NOT work. Because I purchased the aFe exhaust from 4wheelonline and NOT the aFe company itself, I figured it would be only right to report my complaint to 4wheelonline. The customer rep told me that we "have this trouble from time to time on various exhaust systems but when we have called the various companies that make the exhausts, they usually just see if the truck owner/consumer can try and 'tweak' the exhaust themselves or take it to some shop to have it 'tweaked.' " Actually rather than pay for the freight to send it back and then try and get a different exhaust, I think I will rework this tailpipe myself - but for $374.00 should I really have to? I don't want to wait and correspond back and forth for a week or two before i finally get something done or positive responses. I have small air grinders and small cutting and grinding wheels so it will probably just be faster to try and change the hanger bracket myself. Only thing I'm concerned about is burning thru the tube with my Lincoln "buzz box" AC welder - but i do have some really small stainless steel welding rods.
I don't know what I'll do for sure, will take a look at it again tomorrow (Saturday) and either start on it myself or take it to a local mechanic - and I should not have to do either but I do not want the hassle of waiting, etc.
By the way, the aFe muffler does have a very COOL deep mellow sound and it's about 10 to 20 percent louder than stock. The customer rep told me to expect 10-20% sound increase so at least he was right with that. Tomorrow is a new day, I may look at it again. I truly feel, although I have not checked prices, that if I took my truck to a custom muffler/exhaust shop that by the time they mandrel bent 3 inch tubing for me and provided me also with a peformance muffler such as Magnaflow, aFe, Gibson, or others and also included their labor, the my bill would most likely be ever bit of $374.00 and maybe more - the thing is IT WOULD BE DONE BY NOW.
