Cat questions

Hey I'm new to the forum and I just had a question that has been bothering me for days, I'll give the full story of my problem. First my check engine light came on and it was my o2 sensors, so I replaced them. Then just a few days later the light came on again and the kid that scanned my truck told me that my cats went. When I got a price on new cats the guy was telling me that it was gona be like 300 a price, I can weld so i was gona install the cats myself to save the cash. And here is the question I figured I have to options with replacing the cats: 1. I replace my cats with the cheap $80 buck ones on eBay, or 2. I hollow out the cats that I have. Just wanted to get someone elses option on it and if my check engine light would stay on if I hollowed out the cats? Thanks

Another thing to I just looked under my truck does a 2001 f150 have four cats? Because it looks like I have one at a 45 degree angle going into the engine and one that is straight that has the o2 sensor bolted in it, and then the same thing on the other side.

There isn't a code that says to replace your cats, or that they're bad.
