Exhaust problems!

Hey,

So I have a 2000 F150 with the 4.2 V6. Here's the situation:

I've got a new manifold on the passenger side, but not the drivers, it's pretty rusty and there's a leak coming from that area, took it to a shop and they put new clamps on and what not and claim the main leak is coming from my cats, yet it's still leaking right at the manifold area on the drivers side, especially while accelerating. I also have a couple of holes in my muffler.

The main issue is I'm noticing slower acceleration, and I'm wondering would my leaking manifold/exhaust system cause this? - I previously had a rusted out pipe on the passenger side, got that replaced and the truck didn't have a single leak, felt brand new and was so quite, the pedal had a perfectly smooth feel too it and it picked up 20x better then. I got a little happy with it and while in park revved it high a few times and let it sit there too, that's when the leaks started to come about, and also there's a vibration in the pedal while acceleration.

So, what's my situation, what do I need to get this fixed, and what are my options for a new exhaust? I don't care about sound as I know it's a V6 I won't get much anyway, but what I do want is that smooth feel back and my fuel economy back and more important, it to shut up!!

BTW no emissions test are done here, so by-passing the cats and deleting them is an option.

Your cats could be leaking and/or burned out which is causing poor fuel economy and decreased power. You could also have a leak on the passenger side manifold too. Personally, if you planning on keeping your truck for a while and dont mind spending a little to have it running tip top, I would get a set of SHORTY headers and magnaflow high flows cats.

I plan on keeping it as long as I possibly can, and the passenger side manifold is the one which was replaced. The driver side is right rusted out, and while idling you can hear a bit of a tick, more so when it's cold out... It's coming right from the manifold, not the engine, would this be another sign of a leaking manifold?

Where's the best place to order this stuff? I live in Canada, in PEI. I'll save up for a couple of pays and get the shorty headers and high flow cats, found a set of shorty headers for $463, is that reasonable or? It's hard to find a set for the 4.2 V6 for some reason but found 'em online at Andy Auto Sport. And how about the high flow cats, what's a good brand to go with?

RockAuto.com will give you OEM hardware options but I dont know your pipe diameter...2.5" or 2.25"? Headers are expensive no matter what so thats up to you.

Magnaflow 94136 would probably work fine for you as far as cats go. Just go with the two high flows you'll be fine.

Pretty cheap site. Use clubgp for further discount.

Alright so you guys think the manifold/cats failing would be the reason behind my "vibrating pedal" feel and the lack of performance/fuel economy???
