shorty headers

i know they are not the best, but my egr is about rusted off and i am getting that wonderful tick, i have fixed it before and it worked for a little over 2 years now, very cheaply, but its time for something new in there. since i already have good exhaust from the cats to the mufflers i am wondering what shortys i should use. i have heard a lot of things about them, some say good some say bad. i would like long tubes but its just not going to happen right now. i just would like to know the best or better set to get. any recommendations?

1998 4.6 4x4, reg cab long box.

I have a set of BBK ceramic shorty headers sitting in mah garage right now...They worked great for me but I dont live in the NE either :/. Just a word to the wise they NOTICEABLY messed with power band. I had a huge dead spot from like 2000-3600 rpms. I put my stock logs back on and they actually felt better than the shorties. As for quality they were great and fit well.

I would like to avoid that dead spot. I figgured they would sound better than the stock ones. Any one else experience the dead spot?

Any one else running them with luck?

I have never heard of shorties having a "flat spot" in the torque curve.

Perhaps more pronounced. Realistically it seemed to move the power band into the higher rpm range. But yes it definitely sound better.

i hope custom tunes will correct that. theres no reason for me to go above 3600 to hit my powerband i personally would hate that.

I really don't think you have to worry about it 600Polaris. I really don't think a custom tune is necessary for just shorties either, but I would ask evo anyway just to be sure.
