small exhaustive leak
small exhaustive leak
My 06 f150 with the 5.4 has been throwing an intermittent code of small exhaustive leak. I have a k&n cai, flowmaster si/so 3 inch cat back and diablosport programmer. When the check engine light comes on and I try and read the code with the programmer it doesn't read any codes. I went to autozone and used on of their scanners which showed the small exhaustive leak code. They said may be the gas cap, which I tightened. I am thinking the intake. When I clear the code, it takes a couple weeks to come back. Any ideas of what it may be or similar experiences? I doubt its the exhaust as its pretty solid, but will take another look.
It's cleared now as I got the oil changed Monday but will get it next time. I also thought it was a pretty vague description. Exhaustive leak (small), is what it said.

They can, guessing it must be so minor that it doesn't even register on the programmer. That's the only thing I could think of. When I hit clear codes on it, it does indeed clear it out. I should have the code within a few days or so, but I think I am going to reinstall this pos k&n one more time and see if that's it. It also has a high pitched squeal at certain rpms, from the intake, which leads me to believe it may be the culprit. I put out a thread a while ago on the squeal, and a few other people have it as well. Should have done gotts, but bought k&n before I knew. Damn. Also talked with k&n and they say it is fairly common. Not the nice woosh sound, but a squeal.

Good quote. I know, about ready to bite the bullet (230 for the intake) and just do the gotts. Better in the long run.

OK Evap leak detected sounds better than exhaust leak detected..... Anyhow, your Evaporative emissions (EVAP) gas fumes, are to be contained in the system lines, charcoal canister etc. until they are released into the intake to be burned off. It could be a leaking gas cap, any of the lines in the EAVP system, or the EVAP pressure sensor could be bad and thinking there's a leak when there is not. EVAP leaks to me were always a pain to find so try starting with your gas cap. You are shutting the truck off when fueling right? The bottom line other than the annoying light is that the EVAP code will not cause any issues performance or driveability wise. Check the recall/tsb section on this site also......
