It's kinda ridiculous that my 99' explorer with the 5.0 has all four stock cats true dual using a magnaflow crossflow muffler is noticeably louder than my truck which only has two stock cats and that tiny 10" ROR muffler. Any more suggestions from the exhaust gurus would be much appreciated. Oh and just for reference my idea of too much drone is my mustang which has long tubes, no cats, and original 40 series flows.
Sounds like the Cat's hold back a lot of the rumble

Pockets, check out scrap metal places. I know they will pay for cats not sure how much tho. I would assume at least whatever the going rate is for the scrap metal alone, which can vary from place to place.

An exhaust shop should have bungs. As for the stock cats, your shop might take them in on trade for part of the labor cost. They sell them and make money off of them.
