To Flowmaster Or Not To Flowmaster
My Roush Off Road exhaust which is made by Borla sounded better than anything I've heard of for a catback. Now that I have OBX LT's the ROR was too much so I added a 14" Borla muffler before the ROR and it is darn near perfect.
I'm sure my set-up would sound better with some Maggie high flow cats, but I've gotten nothing but compliments out of my Original 40 Flow SI/DO with 4" tips. Will be honest and say that the drone that comes occasionally does get annoying, but overall I'm very happy.
When my aluminized Flow starts to rot in a couple of years I'll probably put a 14" Magnaflow on my truck to see how it sounds. Would that be a similar Db level to my set-up or should I do a 18"? I have a couple of YouTube videos with my current set-up--screenname is the same.
wat steven meant bout magnaflow bein expensive is their catbacks. magnaflow catbacks are bout 700 bucks. and i realize that roush is loud, but they dont make em for 97-03s. only the 04+ f150s. and dsgstx, ik your flowmaster gets compliments, but there are better mufflers that sound just as good. loud doesnt always have to be the best sound. exhausts like gibson or magnaflow sound great cuz of their smoothness and low drone. and if youre lookin for a throaty sound to replace your fm, go with magnapacks. same construction as glasspacks, but with stainless mesh in place of the fiberglass so you dont lose sound. youd just need a y pipe after it for your duals.
What you've "heard" from others and what you have actually "heard" exhaust wise is two different things. Go find out for yourself first. I don't have any drone issues. I'm also not 40-50+ years old and can withstand a loud exhaust.
neither am i im almost 16 but i dont want alot of drone cause i drive on the interstate alot. im just goin by alot of people who have had flowmaster and alot of people say they are crap.
Ol' Blue,
I did wanna say that I wasn't looking for loud when I chose Flowmaster--I was looking for what I thought was a good sound. Many trucks here in MS have Flows, but I honestly think mine sounds better than most because I went with 3" pipes instead of a smaller diameter pipe.
My truck is not raspy, nor is there is the infamous popping that most complain about when discussing Flowmaster. I do feel there are other mufflers that are comparable, or yes, even better quality than my Flowmaster SI/DO, but I personally think my current setup sounds best with my 4.6.
