ok , i called around to a few shops . out of a half dozen i called, only 2 would tig stainless. one guy said if i had the muffler and tips , it would cost $200-$225 for them to bend some 409ss tailpipe to the end for a dual exhaust out the back . that works out great .

the other guy has been in the business a longgg time and tried to sell me on one of his flowmaster kits since he liked the baffle window design better than the magnaflow straight through ... i think ill pass. very knowledgeable though

anyways, ive decided on getting a magnaflow all stainless 18" long SIDO muffler with THESE tips .
as for the muffler .... im confused . i just went outside and measured the exhaust pipe about a foot after the last cat and it was 2.5" . so i would need a muffler that had a SINGLE 2.5" on one end and a DOUBLE outlet on the other end... but which diameter ? i woudl assume 2.5 on the other side and i would get the ss tailpipe from the shop .

i want to order it up , but THIS muffler was the one recommended above and has two 2.5" holes and one 3" . that wouldnt work without an adapter right?

i would think i would need THIS , since its 2.5 on both sides... and that would work well with the 2.5 to 3.5 tips right ?

thanks guys , just want to make sure i get the right muffler .
and Lackey ... you were right . 171$ shipped ( i think free shipping) with the code.

Pipes after the cat are 2.5" but once they go into the factory Y it becomes restrictive. Your shop will mate up a 3" pipe to the 2.5" stock Y pipe. Same thought process as catback kit you first mentioned.

got ya . well part 12288 (3/2.5" muffler) and part 35143 (tip) will be ordered.

im kinda figuring with stock cats and the tips going out the back itll be pretty quiet in the cabin . i dont mind some noise , just dont want to kill the quiet cabin i have now .
i listened to some flowmasters with their baffle system and they have a metallic sound to them , seeing how the little baffle mouse doors in the muffler are metal and maybe absorbing the sound . im definitely going with a straight-through magnaflow .

question... how big of a difference is it from the 18" sido magnaflow to a 14" shorter one in regards to sound ?

i dotn want it to be too quiet . lol . i guess i want what most people want . good throaty sound but quiet enough to talk speakerphone in the cab and minimal droning .

all the hillbillys by me with their 1992 chevy 1500's have wayy too loud of exhausts .my house is 70 yards from the road and i hear one of them go past my house while going 20mph.
i want a couple notches less than that .

UPS just dropped off my Magnaflow 16520 kit. If you're still in the market for a full kit instead of a shop job by the time I get it installed in the next week or 2, I'll let you know what the cabin noise is like. I don't have many good muffler/exhaust shops around here so I went full kit instead.

If you want it quiet you should leave it as is. If not, a 22" Magnaflow with a 12 - 18" Bullet in front of it will do the trick.

Me and a couple buddies installed the Magnaflow 16520 SIDO today. It's got a throaty tone to it, but definitely isn't obnoxious. I'll put pics and a video up in the near future. I've got to go back and make some kind of custom addition for one of the hangers, because the tail pipes didn't want to cooperate and one of the tips is like 1/2" closer to center than the other. As far as the in-cabin noise, it's not bad at all. My Nitto Terra's have some road noise to them, and paired with the exhaust, even at 3000 rpm at 70, I can still hear inside the cab just fine. If your phone is on your arm, at most you might miss a word or two every once in a while.

My $.02 for the evening.

How loud is your muffler now, when you are climbing a hill...I want to do an exhaust, but not too loud as I have a lot of neighbors and I live on many hills. Your muffler described sounds about right..for my `05 FX4...this stock muffler is way to big..heck I could build a Honda out of that hunk of metal.. Hank

Heres something you may want, It would be fairly quiet....

Probably something along the lines of a stock Mustang GT.

im gonna stick with an 18" length ... after all these posts, the 18" will give me good sound , minimal droning (tailpipes out the back will help too) , but youll still be able to tell its there- in or out of the cab .
heck, ill probably put it on and wish it was louder

You'll think that at first, but wait till it opens up a bit...

I've had a few magnaflows, and they always get a bit louder a few hundred miles down the road...

Everytime I've used a maggy, I find the exhaust sounds the same hot or cold for first while.....Then as you rack up some miles on it, it gets deeper when its heated up....

This is the muffler that I have. I like it. It's not too loud and the drone isn't bad at all.
