CAT question

Quick question, i drive a 06 5.4l
i was browsing around on the forums and i've read several people have taken off the rear 2 cats and they didnt have a check engine light come on. i was wondering if this was safe to to do seeing as how i live in texas and we have OBD2 emission inspections. I dont believe there are any O2 sensors after the back cats, so it shouldnt throw a code right? Anybody know more about this and has anyone from Texas done this to their truck?

Thanks

thanks for all the quick replies, did a little researching and found the gotts o2 mod, which im guessing will work for my truck. my only question is will removing just the rear cats and doing this mod cause any effect what so ever on performance? Also planning on sending i my edge to the guys at php this week, is this something they need to know about when making my tune?

As far as the truck having rear cats...did you look under there? I have a 2006 and it didn't come with any rear cats.

so i went under the truck and actually looked and yeah theres only 2 cats, i thought 04-08 modles all had the 4 cat system, so now my question is if i remove those 2 cats and do he gotts O2 mod will it mess anything up? Because i know i read the first 2 cats deal with the air/fuel mixture, but there are 2 O2 sensors before the cats and then 2 directly pluged into the cats.. so im guessing the 2 before the cats are checking the air/fuel, and the 2 pluged into the cats are just for emissions... is that correct?

If you want to remove them, you better tune for it!

You have 2 cats.

You have an o2 sensor behind both cats.

You can tune and delete the secondary sensors so it will run right and not show a cel, but it will NOT pass the emissions test. Period.

how would not pass emissions test? they dont dyno anything after 95.. its on OBD2, so if no cel is on how would it fail.. the only way i could think it would fail is that it shows they are turned off by the pcm.. but once again thats not what i asked, i asked about the gots O2 mod wroking.. which doesnt turn the sensors off, simply modifies them to "think" they are correctly working.. i was merely stating that i was going to inform them when they creat the tune that i have no cats.

You are right. My fault. I see no reason that it would fail, other than a visual inspection.

As far as the gotts o2 mod? People say it works. It has been done before on here. I would however just tune for it and not worry about the mod all together.
