Borla Install?

I just got my Borla SS Cat Back system today and I was wondering if anyone out there has installed one of these themselves. If so, how did it go? My main concern is leaks around the clamps. I got a quote from a local shop for about $50.00, but I don't mind doing it myself as long as the joints don't leak. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

No leaks in mine. Did you check out how those clamps are designed?
They're perfect for the job, and it's obvious that someone thought about
leakage when they were designed. BTW, you got a great price for
install. It only took the Midas boys 17 minutes to install mine. Did a great
job, and I was right there on 'em while they were doing it.

Sundog - Those clamps sure do look a lot better than the stuff you buy at AutoZone! How do you like your system so far? I did a lot of research and from what I read, it seems like the Borla gives a good mix of performance, sound, and quality. A little pricey, but I picked mine up "on sale" and only spent about 325.00 (single in, single out - just like stock). Is it me, or does the intercooled tip seem kind of big? Not sure what you got with yours, but mine came with the angle cut round intercooled tip and the damn thing looks enormous! Maybe once it is on the truck it will fit a little better. Who knows. Thanks for the info.

Jacap1:
Hopefully, you will also have the "Y" pipe mod done, so you can realize the full potential of upgrading your exhaust. I'm sold on the idea and am waiting for mine to come from http://www.racerpartswholesale.com.

Thumbs up

I've had my Borla on for two years now, and no leaks. Installation was fairly easy. The only problem was getting the stock muffler off. I just used a small hand grinder with a cutting wheel, and split the pipe and it came right off.

The exhaust still looks like new. The clamps look as good as the rest of the system.

Good luck!

I like my Borla. I did not want to be heard from three blocks away, and wanted a system designed for performance rather than one that only made cool, loud, manly-man truck noises. (I have a single in/ dual split rear; I'll deal with the Y-conn at a later time). I like the throaty warble. I know it will sound the same 7 years from now, long after the glasspackers have been blown out, or the "aluminized" systems have rusted thru. I don't think the tips are particularly large. I have the angle cut tips as well. To my eyes, I think they should be about 4 inches longer.....so they don't look as though they were added on as an afterthought. However, where they're positioned, I'm not complaining.

I have had my Borla on for about 4 months now and I love it. Your exhaust won't be very loud at first but after a couple of months you go through a sort of "break in" period and it gets a little louder. It still is not annoyingly loud, it just sounds so good. The install is fairly easy. As someone said above the hardest part is getting the old exhaust off. Good luck!

Installed!

Had the system installed this past weekend and it is great! I got under the truck to do it myself, but it was close to 100 here this weekend so I said screw it, and took it to the muffler shop. The system looks great, especially that intercooled tip, and it sounds even better. Very quiet at idle, but when you step on it, you can tell it is not the stock set-up. Nice throaty growl at full throttle. Seems to have added a little power, but nothing tremendous. It is hard to explain, and it may be my imagination, but it just feels like the truck isn't working quite so hard anymore. Almost like driving with the e-brake on and taking it off after you see the little idiot light on! I drove with just the exhaust Saturday, then added a Superchip yesterday. Only had a chance to put about 15-20 miles on so far, but the chip definitely makes a diference. I am hoping that once the system "sets-up" I will feel a little more power gain. In the mean time, both were a great investment. The Borla is worth it for the sound alone! Thanks to everyone for their opinions.
