Exhaust Shop Refuses to Install Need Advice
Hey Everyone,
I am wanting to put in a DIDO Magnaflow Exhaust (already have muffler and tips). I have found a shop that will do it for $400 but that sound a little high to me so I thought I would shop around.
I went to another shop and was told that they would not do the install due to having to remove the Y-pipe stating that it creates more heat that allow the Cat's to function properly due to the extra heat created.
They stated that I would probably get O2 Sensor codes and then not be able to pass the North Carolina Inspection. I about got into an argument with him as I know many many people on this board have this set up and I have not heard one person mention throwing codes with stock Cats.
Is this BS or something I should be concerned about?
TIA,
KD

I have been reasearching exhaust and listening to audio clips and I like the sound of it. Why would I not want to do that? Is there something wrong with what I was wanting to do?
I guess my question to you would be what would you suggest?

Sorry about that. I was going to have 2.5 piping installed. Muffler is 2.5 in and out and the tips are 3.5" with 2.5 inlet. And I am going to get a tunner after I get my tires. 5startunning is not to far from me so I am going to take it to them and have them put it on their dyno and custom tune it. They have a deal for the LiveWire tunner and dyno time for custom tunning ($795 if I remember correctly).

Good or bad the muffler I purchased has a built in X. What this shop is basically saying is that they would never put in anything other than a SIDO muffler so as to not change anything in front of the muffler (where the pipe splits to go to each cat).
They have to be wrong as that is one of the most restrictive parts of the stock exhaust and there are so many people that do this all of the time even here in NC.

Go to a different shop. You will be fine. Go true dual and eliminate your y-pipe. If your DI/DO muffler already has a built in x-pipe, then you don't need one further up where the y-pipe was. Most will tell you it's best to have the x where the y was, but having it a little further down in the muffler will be ok as well.
Don't listen to the guy at the exhaust shop, his mind has failed.
Good luck.

There is nothing wrong with the setup you have in mind. That shop is ignorant, and you should go elsewhere. Keep calling around and explore your options. If they give you a bunch of bull like this guy did, continue searching!
I can't figure out why they would tell you that you create more heat, unless they figure you pushing to much dead gases thru the system. The Y is the bad spot, the WORST restrictive area in these systems. Going with duals, an X and mandrel bends takes care of that. But, you have to keep your pipe sizing right to generate proper flow. What's best ? If your keeping your current manifolds and cat set up, I would say 2.5. If you went with headers (LT's) and HF's, then you might need to reconfigure, -step it down to 2.25.
Yea, that shop doesn't know the 5four 3valve and is loosing money because of it. I mean IMO, they should have said that you can optimize performance with tuner and not refused the work.
