Pulling Muffler Completely?
Pulling Muffler Completely?
Hey i was wondering if there are any problems pulling the whole muffler completely and just leaving it as it is. Everything is stock under the hood. The muffler has one pipe welded on the back end of it for the exhaust pipe.

Dont think it will be a problem....ive never had any...and thats basically what i did with mine...when i bought my truck it had a flowmaster with dual outs and i just cut everything out (sounds so much better) and zero problems
Not really sure about the stock on...most all of my piping had been replaced when i got the truck....im thinkin 2.5 inch...but not sure...im sure somebody on here knows....and as far as gettin it off....electric sawzall with a wrecking blade haha...itll do the charm

You loose your velocity...
When you lose the velocity, the engine has to work a little harder to get the exhaust gases out...
Think of your exhaust as a siphone hose....once the exhaust is flowing, it works to pull the gases out.
It won't be overly noticable..... But your truck will sound god awful if you tow something...
Actually... Its going to sound awful if you don't run some sorta mufflin' device...
And yes, you will have to cut the OE can off....

That would be biggoldie's opinion. I have true duals on mine with all 4 factory cats (read my sig) and I did not notice any torque decrease. I also use my truck as a truck and tow a 19 foot travel trailer in the summer and haul a quad year round and I don't think it sounds terrible at all. All my buddies love the way my truck sounds. It is fairly loud so if that is not your taste then don't do it. Mine are duals so I am not sure what a single without a muffler would sound like but if you have all 4 factory cats it shouldn't be that loud. I would not dump the exhaust under the truck if you take the muffler off. I would run it all the way to the back to cut down on cabin noise.
And as I said, the torque loss is minimal... Not overly noticable.
And he will lose it if he doesn't run some pipe..."like You"... to gain a tract for the exhaust gas to flow... Creating velocity which draws the gases out of your motor...
Are you talking about dumping it before the stock muffler? Or welding in a straight pipe?
My buddy's dad runs straight pipes on his '97 5.4 and it sounds decent...maybe a little louder than a flowmaster 40.

How are you going to lose velocity by cutting off the muffler?
Bad sound? that is subjective.
I would lose the muffler then add a pipe where the muffler used to be, that way you would still have the dump behind the axel. Sounds better. If you still have the cats it won't be too loud.
No problem with what you want to do
