flowmaster super 44
flowmaster super 44
Hey guys Im sure this is beat to death, but I was wondering your thoughts of the new super 44? Has anyone installed this muffler yet, and if so what are your thoughts? pros?? cons??? thanks
Same with me. Had the Super44 for 2 years. Sounded wicked at WOT but the drone was ridiculous and the torque loss with the baffled muffler just isn't worth it. Not to mention it rusted bad. Switched to Borla and its MUCH better in all categories except price.
Hi.
Yer in luck, my friend....

1. Yep - beaten to a bloody pulp - or, as one feller so eloquently put it ... "didn't we stake this particular vampire already"?
2. Fartmaster (is full of) Rocks!

Yer truck, yer money. If you like the sound, the drone, the toque reduction, and the lack of longevity, that's all that matters. Enjoy!

Hi Trriton 2,
Exhaust is really outside of the realm of this section of the boards, so you really need to give us a call to go over this in proper detail.
Though it's not an absolute must, yes, we do recommend getting rid of the "Slowmaster" muffler and replacing it with an appropriate Magnaflow unit - that will help to improve torque. Now exactly which muffler you use will depend on what kind of sound characteristics you want, so that's why you need to call, so we can go over all of that with you. It's not just length alone, for example.
What that Flowmaster setup is doing is actually *reducing* torque on part throttle at any rpm, and reducing torque below about 3000 rpm a at any throttle position - and that is due to all those silly baffles & chambers they use as part of their "sound engineering" - all they are is impediments to airflow, and slow down exhaust gas velocity, which is why you don't see much in the way of HP gains form them, and actually lose torque, especially in the lower rpm ranges. When it comes to torque, exhaust gas *velocity* is absolutely key.No, we will not need to change what we do in the tuning if you change to a different cat-back exhaust system or just do a muffler change like that - that will be fine.

I have the flowmaster and i love it. depends on what YOU like!. I did all my research too and figures with my set up and truck it was for me. Sometimes a $2000.00 exhaust on a higher or high mileage cant be justified. I used the oney of other stuff. Besides serioulsy... TORQUE? R u tellin me that you can actually tell the diferrence cause youve had both on YOUR truck. Or You just readin the advertisment. and how much? 10 lbs?

.Like mSaLL150, I've had chambered and straight-through systems - and you can tell.
It's summarized succinctly by this image (and no, I'm not going to provide you with the Rosetta stone, lol):

And - I believe I already said "to each his own"

the flow 44 is supposed to be deeper sounding than the original flow 40. don't really know much about them beyond that.

i have a super 44 on my 300, sounds good. gas miledge is about 12mpg city, but that's with very aggressive mud tires and gearing that doesn't match the tires. If you worry about the 1tq loss between a flow and a magnaflow, then by God go with a straight through.
well guys thanks for your opinions, this is my first truck that i have not left stock.....first ford also. love my truck very much and this is my next mod. I got online and searched for a good sounding muffler. well i was working nights last night, and before looking back at the feedback of this tread i got up and ordered the super 44.. I hope this isnt a big mistake....i guess i will put it on and see what happens. Got it off ebay so if I dont like it im only out 60 bucks.........thanks again
