Many more reports of problems than not - due to poor maintenance, over-oiling, inappropriate use (conditions too dusty, etc).

Keep it properly oiled, clean MAF regularly and, provided yer local air quality is acceptable & not constantly filled with concrete dust, you may get lucky.

Jbrew is my go-to K&N reference here - there is no better advice to be had - you can bet he's tested these. And he's switched to Amsoil nanofiber EA filters. Good enough fer me.

[I used to run one - and it would simply NOT keep out the ambient industrial fallout in my area.]

me neither! I have always done the two filter system. ever since I started using K&N back in the 80's on my race bikes. I would change my filters during the weekend some times. It depended on the conditions. So I always had one ready.
Now when I take my truck to the desert. and follow a few trucks for many miles and the dust - sand is heavy. I can come home swap out my filter. Then when I have time in the next couple of days I clean the dirty filter, oil it and let it sit for a couple of days. then I set it in a sealed bag until it is time to use.

It is just how I do it. No one needs to do what I do! I have done this for years. I will do it for more. the oil in the filter helps trap fine dust dirt. I like K&N filters. they have never failed me.

any problem stories that I read must be from those that don't follow instructions. or over oil. Also it sounds like some people don't secure the filter or pipes correctly. always double check to see if the rubber bellows or connecting tube rubbers are tight. they shrink and then you can get dust through the system.

X 2 larry i have never once had red oil in the intake ANYwere. i oil mine and let them sit for a few days.

i might need to buy a need one one of mine is packed full of mud and ive tryed to break it out from between the filter but its still nasty and that cleaner stuff got alot out but the big mud chunks wont come out.

ya the only storys of bad K&N i have heard are the people who over oil/do not clean right.

picture of under the hood after i sank my truck in some nasty mud. i took the filter off no mud no water nothing on the inside of the tube.
