My wife emailed me to let me know that she finally called an exhaust shop to get a quote for her new truck. Its a 2011 F150 SuperCrew with a 6.5ft bed and a 5.0.They told her $375 for dual 2 1/2 in pipe into the muffler and then dual 2 1/2in out of the muffler 90ed out behind the rear tires. Does this sound reasonable for pipe and labor? I am supplying the muffler and tips. I am using a magnaflow 2.5 in dual inlet/ dual outlet tru x muffler, with 2.5 in/ 3.5 in out 12" long slash cut tips

 

If you are supplying the muffler and tips that seems pretty high to me..I had my last truck run true dual all the way out and it was under 500 including mufflers and tips.. I would say shop around a bit more. I would think the 150-200$ range is closer to what it should be

 

Around where I live, to get a good quality job done it costs around $300-$400. When i had my duals ran the first time it ran me $320 and i supplied the mufflers.

 

I havent done any shopping around yet so cant help with price, But please post a video of that setup if you get it done.

I was charged $250 for my pipes and labor. I supplied the X-pipe, the mufflers, and the tips. And my piping was Stainless Steel. Even factoring in the different markets, I was say that $375 is extremely high.

it all depends on what area you live in a little too. I don't think that price is all that bad, maybe a little high, but I live in st. louis. I think everything is overpriced in bigger city communities rather than out in the country.

 

Me and my wife are currently living in Hawaii where I am stationed. Her truck is due around the 18th of February. I had her call another shop on island and they told her $400. I will post pics and videos as soon as I get home on r and r. I plan on taking it to the exhaust shop right after we pick it up from the dealer.

 

oh, well if its in Hawaii i guess they should be using stainless steel pipes so it could be a little higher than normal....

 

Prices will also depend on how many other competitors there are around the area.

 

there's only 2 reputable shops on island that mandrel bend and guarantee the quality of work and a few other shady shops that use prebent only and 1 or 2 of them told my wife mandrel bent pipe is a waste of money.

 

They probably told you it's a waste because they can't do it and want to put the persuasion on you. haha

Mandrel bends are the best you can get in terms of flow.

 

Are you sure it is true mandrel bend? If so then the price gets more reasonable. Still high I think though. Some shops call smooth bend mandrel bend. Mandrel the diameter is constant throughout whereas smooth it necks down at the bend but it isn't crimped.

 

i guess i will just have to wait until r and r. how will smooth bent pipe perform vs. mandrel bent pipe?

 

Mandrel bent is the best as far as performance because the diameter of the tubing remains constant. I, however, have smooth bent pipes and doubt I would notice it if they were mandrel.
