From my old thread. This might help you narrow things down a bit. My own personal exhaust evolution:

I've dumped over $1500 in my exhaust since I bought that truck. All thanks to you guys and this site. F150Online has turned my truck into a money pit and I couldn't be more thankful.

Yes i really like straight pipe i listened to a truck on youtube and it sounded really good. I would just like too listen to a few to make sure it would sound good if i could listen to yours that would be great but, is straight pip a easy thing to do or does it cost more and what exactly do i do to get it like that?

straigt piping a truck is about the easiest thing you can do exhaust wise, also the cheapest. basically, you just remove the muffler. from there you can have a shop simply run piping to where ever you want you exhust tips. even easier than that would be to simply remove the muffler and angle it down right where the muffler was, so that really no work is involved at all compared to running exhaust pipe and tips out the back. this is known as "dumping" it generally. a buddy of mine just removed his muffler and had the shop run piping out the back corners for like 120$. he supplied the tips.
heres a random youtube video of straight pipes on our body style

^ Sure it is cheap. Sure it sounds okay when you only rev it to 2k, but it sounds like crap when you get on it!

I also suggest the MBRP. It sounds very deep, although it kind of drones a little on the highway.

As for tips check out the Manaflow web site.they have a large selection and imo have some of the nicest tips out there. You cant go wrong with 3" or 4" tips.

Anyone have a sound clip of the Dynomax VT on a 04-08 F-150? I have searched and the closest I can find is a 78' Bronco, a Tundra and a Titan clip . I would like to upgrade also, but I can't deal with the highway drone that most free flowing exhaust produce. I am looking to simply swap the muffler and stay with the stock 2.5" pipe and replace my factory chrome tip because she is tarnished a bit. This Dynomax VT is supposed to eliminate droning.

I just bought the Flowmaster 40 series setup from truckexhaustkits.com today. After seeing the video up there, im kinda thinking I bought something much too loud for my tastes.
