Flowmaster vs magnaflow

So i just now read the sticky tread, Exhaust Guide. Which i will admit i should have read that first and a long time ago, when i first got my exhaust, but now after gaining a little knowledge on topic, i have a question.

I am planning to redo the exhaust system on my truck (06, 5.4L) in about a month. so far i know im going to add the magnaflow y pipe, but i dont know if i want to replace the muffler as well.

the muffler i currently own is a Flowmaster series 10. now after learning the difference between chambered mufflers and flow thu mufflers, im wondering how much effect going between the 2 will really have considering the series 10 is a single chamber..

Is there really that much difference in restriction between a single chamber and a flow thu? I just became a police officer, so i really dont have all the money in the world to just throw into my truck, but i also dont want crap on it either.

I also plan on doing whats recommended here and run 2.5" thru the whole system with bout 3.5" or 4" tips.

What you guys think? And thanks for all feed back

if you want to sleep at night, get the big block flowmaster #70 series or 50 series. this sound will be the same at all times. that other crap with packing will get louder and drone.

On the 04-08s I wouldn't hesitate running a Magnaflow muffler. For the price they have a nice sound inside and out.

Not a big fan of hollow Flowmaster sound.

Thanks for the advice, i do agree with you that magnaflow sounds better, my original muffler i wanted to get was magnaflow, but got talked out of it.

But im looking for performance differences, i dont want to spend another 150 bucks, if the difference between these 2 mufflers aren't much of a gain.

Probably the worst suggestion I've heard on this board.

If you want a good sounding cheap muffler, there are Dynomax Bullets that only cost $39.99 plus shipping at Summit, and the Magnaflow Magnapacks that are $52.04 with free shipping at Performance Peddler. Both sound great and are low priced. The only downside of the Bullets is that they are not stainless steel like the Magnapacks.

You will not notice a power difference between a 10 series and a Bullet/Magnapack, just a much better sound.

i will agree that magnaflow has a better sound but they don't do well on the new fords. it maybe the way they're designed but drone will be there. the reason i suggested the flowmaster #70 series, it's a big, long muffler that has chambers to dampen sound. the flowmaster may sound a little hollow but does ots job well. the magnaflow will get louder and drone louder. this is from my experience. simply stated; the best sound may not be the right muffler.

Slightly, but it won't be a game changer. It will make the final note of the exhaust deeper.

ok well i was bobbling between 18 or 22, it was basicly what i could find the best deal on. If im running 2.5" on the pipes, then i do i need 2.5" inlets on the tips or slightly larger or smaller?
