I bought a 2005 F150XL, I have been looking at glasspacks to make it alittle louder. Im new at this so i need some help on what size and brand would be best sound quality.

glass packs tend to have some pop and crackle to them at higher rpm and deceleration from high rpm, so just be aware of that. that being said i just get what ever brand my exhaust shop of choice carries. and the longer the glass pack the quieter, so 18 in is not as loud as a 12 in. also you tube is a good source for hear muffler samples with your motor. if you have a 4.2 V6 i would highly recommend not getting glass packs as they can some times make it sound more like a big go kart then a American truck.

dynomax bullet. sounds great and is cheap. $40 and all you have to do is cut out the factory muffler and reweld the new one. If you can weld yourself then its simple if not, your looking at about $120 when its all said and done.

So would you recommend straight pipes or glasspack? I want the loudest but at the same time great sound. And on glass packs is there a certain size id have to get depending on my truck or does it matter?. Cause i know shorter and wider=louder.

Or would it just be easier and sound good if i just cut off the muffler??

I would just go with a new muffler. I mean I got a glasspack on my 4.6 V8 and it really doesnt sound bad at all, i think mine was 2.5" by idk somthing real big, it aint small ill tell ya that much but it still sounds good. Tomabro is right, there is some pop and crackle to them. But if you have a V6 i would not suggest putting one on your truck, my friend did it to his truck and it sounded like **** lol. Im probably going to end up putting a flowmast super 44 on my truck because glasspacks are illegal in NJ. But seeing as my inspection sticker still has 2 years on it im probably not doing that any time soon

dont degrade your truck with a glasspack. put a 12" dynomax bullet on and be done with it.

no any length will fit ur truck, the with is mostly dependent on the pipe size ur using, but i haven't seen where u told us what motor u have, so if its a v6 the bullets are a great alternative, the price is just slightly higher but the sound quality is much better. and if you straight pipe with a v6 it will be worse then glasspacks. straight pipe on a modular motor can be tricky to get to sound right, depending on duals or not, x or h pipe, manifolds or header, dumps or not, exit location all affect the sound. if u want the safest rout to get a good aggressive sound a round body bullet is the best choice. and just get the shortest u can if u want it that loud... and like i said before do some youtube searches of different mufflers on YOUR motor.

if u decide to put the glass packs on the v6 do not go shorter then the 18" ones or it will sound like a ticked off bumble be.... trust me my first two trucks were a 4.0 and 4.2 v6 and i started with 12in glass packs and both times switched to 18in because after the new wore off they didnt really sound that great after all. i highly highly recommend a flowmaster or bullet for your motor
