exhaust on a budget

i am going to get a 04-05 f150(gotta sell my old chevy first) with a 5.4. and i was wondering what would give me the best sound and performance. i was thinking getting a split but if the price was close could go true duals. i can weld so that wont be a holdup. but what muffler should i get? flowmaster? magnaflow? borla? and should i go with glasspacks or somethin else? also should i go with 2.5 inch pipes for more low end or 3s for more top? im on a budget but not a tight one but would like to stay under 750 and i would rather go cheaper than pay a bunch more for a marginal gain.

True duals 2.5", x-pipe, straight through muffler ( bullet or magnpacks) what ever tips you want.

Go 2.25" for best all-around usage on an otherwise N/A stock truck. 3" is far to big...

Recently discussed in depth here: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ex...rue-duals.html

If yer on a real budget you can try the fleabay knockoff x-pipe if it's available in a 2.25" variant. But if $33 bucks is gonna kill you, be prepared for sticker shock on Stainless mandrel bent tubing

Good luck.

If you would rather "go cheap than pay a bunch more for a marginal gain," just put a muffler on the stock pipe and call it a day. An exhaust on a 300 HP truck that weighs 6000 lbs isn't going to make enough difference to justify anything, unless you just really, really want the sound of duals.

When talking about "low end" and "top end" what exactly do you mean and which is best? I'm also looking for a cheap exhaust system. I was thinking to cut my stock muffler off and replace it with a dynomax bullet, and not run any pipes from that. What do you think?
P.S. I have an 04 F150 4x4 5.4

Run the pipe out, if not it will drone bad and you will be heading back to get it done anyway. Just have them reuse your stock tail pipe.

Agreed, highway drone is NOT fun.. And I'd suggest putting a tip on. It looks nicer and gives your exhaust a nice metallic tone, especially when you're idling.
