I took my truck in last week and they told me that I needed a tip that was 8" long. Why would they say i need a 8" long tip?

12"-18" long tips will be fine. I would lean a bit towards the 12" tips for a side exit.

I've had 12" and 18", the 12" leaves just a bit of pipe visible if you don't have running boards. I've had the 18" on 2 different body styles 1993 and 2000 and it works on both.

I believe mine are 12. The reason I would think the shop gave for having an 8 inch long tip is so that their is room to bend the pipe back to parallel with your drive shaft but still leaving room so that there are no rubbing issues. I woulld go to a shop and have them holld a few different pairs up until you find the ones you like and how far you want them to stick out.

If I ever redo mine it will be 14-18 tip.

Just requires some planning to get it right for duals.
