New Intake?

I am in the process of rebuilding my 5.4 99 Expediton EB and I was thinking of replacing my stock intake manifold with a Sullivan manifold and Cobra style trottle body adapter. My main question is will this intake work on the 99 motor or is this overkill? I'm really just looking for a little more low end power and I really don't like the wimpy looking throttle body that is on there now. My performance plans also includes headers and I'll berunning a aftermarket HD exhaust system and a Diablo tuner.

Is there a stock intake, maybe off the Navigator motor that uses the Cobra style throttle body? Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Ernie

Waste of time and money. Tons of people are about to recommend the gott's mod.

There is only 1 aftermarket intake manifold for the 5.4L that I am aware of, its the HPS intake manifold. The navigators have 4v heads and their intake manifold will not bolt up.

To answer your question, No.

If you are really looking to upgrade, the HPS lower with a ported upper and 75mm throttle body would be your best option in my opinion.

so you are building a 32 valve motor and you want to remove all low end torque from your vehicle??

I believe my motor is only 2V per cylinder, but obviously I'm looking to increase my low end power.

the intake you are loooking at is for a 32 valve motor that is being revved over 6000 rpms each and every time...

since you have a 2 valve (16 valves total) just keep the stock intake manifold or use the HPS 5.4 intake

if you want to be creative

you can use a lightning upper plenum on it but a custom tune will be needed to make it run as good as possible and then you can use the lightning/harley truck air inlet systems

I thought all Lightnings/HD's were super charged? What year is that manifold from?

the '99-'04 Lightnings and the '03-'04 harley trucks were factory supercharged

that is a upper plenum off of a Lightning and a metal intake manifold off of a '99 PI 5.4

Forgive my lack of knowledge but PI stands for? Will that upper plenum fit my 99 5.4 intake?

PI = Power Improved

a lightning uper plenum will bolt right on if you make an adapter

Ah I see what you did. Wouldn't using the HPS be a better choice for me though. It seems that even with building an adapter your still restricted by size of the inlet on the manifold.

it's all ported out and not much of a restriction at all

the HPS doesn't offer much low end but once you get over 2500 rpms it works well

There are better ways to achieve more low end torque than swapping out intake manifolds.

LT headers
Gears
Various other bolt ons

A HPS manifold would only be good if you were planning on racing.
