Have a few questions

Hey everyone, I need a little help with deciding what mufflers to use to get a certain sound.

I'm driving an '05 F-150 with the 5.4, magnaflow high flow cats, 2.5" duals right now with no mufflers to 4x18 tips 45'd.
Thing is, I want more Rumble, less highway noise than the straight pipes are giving me. Is flowmaster a good idea?

I have had DynoMax two-chamber mufflers (came on the truck) - switched to dynomax bullets with highflows - then to a DI/DO magnaflow dumped over the axle - now to straights and highflows.

I'm thinking dual flowmaster 40 series... would that get me what I want? Maybe similar sound to Darren's old chevy 6.0?

Thanks,
Will

Oh sorry, the exhaust shop fabbed a short H pipe. It's still pretty dang loud though, would dual original 40 series be a lot more mellow on the highway? Or sound remotely close to that silverado I mentioned?

Thanks again

I don't know about "mellow", maybe more "tin can-ish".

How much quieter, if at all, would it be @ 65mph as opposed to no mufflers?

Probably quieter, but all Flowmasters drone pretty hard. Why didn't you like the Bullets that you had on?

I got tired of them after about a year. Nothing wrong with them, just pretty plain sounding I guess. Believe it or not, very few people around here have Flowmasters on their trucks. Most of that is due in part to 80% of the trucks around here are diesels, and the gassers all use glasspacks. I don't know, I just seem to like the original 40s sound.

Thanks,
Will

Well if you like the 40 series sound then go for it. It's your truck and as long as it make YOU happy, then that's what counts.

I'd look into Borla if I were you. xs pro. I think the xr1 may be a little loud for you if you want more of the flowmaster tone.

I'm pretty well used to it being very loud. Trying now to tame it down quite a bit and lose most of the cackling and popping, as well as some interior noise. That's really why I posted, to see if anyone had run both straight pipes and flowmasters and could help make a comparison.

Thank you both

Alright 4.6 Punisher, your videos have kinda convinced me. I didn't hate the Magnaflow muffler I had before, just was interested in new things.

Now my approach is different: how would true dualed 14" round body magnalows sound? Compared to Magnapacks? To straight pipes? Pro's, con's, etc.
I don't want to spend another arm and a leg.

Thanks guys,

Only 1 guy has installed one of those 6" mufflers, and I think he ended up going with a Magnapack. Don't quote me on that though.

The 14" round bodies are Magnapacks. They don't pop or crackle if you've got an X-pipe. With an H-pipe, they still have a bit of that straight-pipe sound. They won't be as loud as straights or drone as bad.

I really do need to make some more vids of mine so people can get a general idea of how they sound.

That would be cool. Very clean looking truck by the way man. I need to get a new camera so I can at least get some pics up of mine.

I watched a video of a WS6 with those 14" magnapacks and it sounds pretty sweet. With highflows and off a modular V8 I'm sure it'll be nice.
