muffler law in texas change???

i was informed by a worker at autozone that "glass packs" are now illegal in the state of texas?
i dont see how this is..considering they "muffle" the sound of exhaust and quiet it down like theyre supposed to do...

anyways the reason im asking this is because i've passed before with one with no problems. and i would think that if their illegal, then dynomax bullets would be also.

any input would be appreciated
thanks

My uncle is a state trooper there. Lives over near San Antonio. I'll give him a call and let you know tomorrow what he says. He's big in the truck scene as well so i'm sure he'll know.

it's true they do, and any "muffler" or modification that makes a vehicle louder than stock is "illegal"

Yea its been like that for about a year now, thats why when you buy them it says for offroad use only. Not like Dps is gonna pull you over and impound your truck for a 20 dollar glasspack

DPS isn't worried enough about pulling people over for an a/m muffler...if they were, Texas alone would be able to solve the US' debt in about a yr! we have almost more people driving WITHOUT and exhaust than people who do.

I've had a friend who is a DPS officer tell me that my truck sounds good for being a V6, and he knows I have some things done to it...

It's like any other law like that on the books - it's going to be selectively enforced. If you aren't being obnoxious or obvious, you probably won't get hassled. It's like tint laws. If a cop sees you driving like a jackass and pulls you over, that's when you get busted for these "nuisance" things.

the only law is like migdaddy said.

there is no law saying you cant put a glasspack on your truck in texas. i have a family member thats works for the state that clarified it for me. (technically i am illegal by the way) the law has to do about you exhaust db's and how loud you are. most straight thru mufflers will be only "offroad" and some will say illegal because they go above the allowed decibel the law allows.

there is no law stating what muffler you can or can not use in texas but just be aware of the sound level you are immulating because eventually you will **** of the wrong cop.

edit: where you place the exit can be illegal also. forgot to mention that.

thank yall very much for clarifying this for me!

i figured it'd be a sound thing. im not too worried about sound. i dont get on it real hard next to cops. and i still have all 4 cats so its really not all that loud.

again, thanks for the info!

yea being in south texas with a big a truck scene. I've yet to here any problems with exhuast being to loud. The most problems with any pd or dps down here is street racing and burnouts. Either way if it was illegal i'm still getting a glass pack mean while I save enough dough to buy me some magnaflows.
