Installed new cold air intake today.
I Installed my new cold air intake today. A few posts I read mentioned having to go through a few tank-fulls of gas before the pcm can adjust to it, is that correct? One of them said he was getting a decrease in gas mileage, and then it improved on the third tank of gas. I disconnected the battery for awhile, does the pcm still have to re-learn the increased airflow?
Hey, I like my loss of performance!

I honestly thought about changing my AEM open box to a sealed box with a tube that goes to the fender.
But I
1) have no Idea how
2) have no clue it if would make any noticeable change
3) change the sound of the intake.
I could try to fab something up with some PVC, but I have no idea how i would mount it to my filter box and secure it to my fender, or if it would even allow much air in at all.
What size pipe or anything.
I thought about using the biggest size PVC that I could get to fit, and I figure I would need at least two 90" elbows, one at the air box and one to redirect the pipe facing to the bumper.
Use a large inlet type deal, use a huge T fitting where the air will be coming in, cut the T open so its like a scoop, and figure out how to make a cap for the end of the T fitting to force more air in the pipe.
I figure a 2" pvc would fit down the fender, but i have no Idea how to make the pipe seal to the fender inlet for a good flow of air.
Could adapt a 3" or maybe even a 4" T to the pipe for a large scoop.
Would only be doing anything when the truck is moving, but I figure I could get all the pipe and fittings for less than $15.

That would be like the banks ram air setup, but home made.
I can look from the filter box down and see the ground, maybe i could bypass the fender idea and just go stright down?
Maybe if i am not doing much today at work ill pull my truck in and look at it.
I wonder if a person used heat wrap on the inlet tube and PVC to help avoid heat soak from the engine?

Disconnecting the battery is fine - but the PCM's adaptive strategy will cover any changes on it's own (IF they existing in the first place) over time anyway without a reset.
And - as TJ pointed out, you are now injesting warmer air than the stock system was originally providing, in general, hence you are hurtng perf somewhat.
Also - depending upon yer local environment, you may now be injesting additional particulates that the stock filter was keeping out - these aftermarket filters are mostly junk - marketing BS aside. At least get an Amsoil EA filter if you can fiond one that will fit - one of the very few good ones.
Thanks for not doing the research, but helping out the flaccid economy though.

No argument there - mods for personal sound preferences are just fine if that is what folks are actually intending (like Fartmasters, TB spacers or Turdonators

Did not like the warm air issue with most intakes also, this is why I went with S&B. It gets its air at the same place as stock, and also with a snorkel positioned out the front. No Warm air here....plus looks much better and takes up less room than the stock behemoth.

Yer intake system uses a MAF in it's own venturi. There is nothing to adjust for as there is no real increase in flow over the stocker, as the stocker already outflows the intake air requirements of a stock truck.
