A good tune and lower gears will give you most umph down low, aside from a blower.
headers and exhaust are only good at high rpm. Don't do a thing at 2000 to 2500 rpm where these trucks work. In fact, you will probably loose bottom end at lower rpm.
If you want sound, keep your stock pipe and change to a muffler with less baffling in it. That will give you a nice sound without hurting you down low.
If you go with true duals, keep the pipe small like around 2 inch on each pipe. Use an X or an H pipe with it. 2.5 inch used in a true dual setup is to big. I have made that mistake before. I won't do it again. lost bottom end grunt.
The long and the short of it is that the exhaust on these trucks is not the weak link. It flows plenty good at the low rpm levels that we drive these things. If you want to improve performance, you need to either put on a power adder, or retune the computer to adjust the fuel and timing tables to give you some extra kick. Lower gears is also a good way to get better low end feel out of it. The next thing is to break into it and change out the cams and port and polish the heads. But that seems a bit impractical to me.

You can do underdrive pulleys fairly cheap if you do the work yourself.

That I do agree with....some of my buds set-ups are huge power pigs, drawing more than a household dryer. Hehehe
I've been running underdrives on my truck for 2 years now. The amp in my truck is 800 watts for 2 10" subs. I am also running dual electric fans. I have a LOT of draw and my battery/ charging system has held up fine.
