Gotts forced air

So I did the gotts mod on my 04 5.4 and was happy and also have a gryphon. But here is my question, I removed the Gotts mod 8" pipe and installed a piece 3" aluminum flexable hose and ran it down to where the tow hook is making a true forced air intake is there any reason this is bad? I also increase the WOT fuel, by a couple % seems to run amazing.

I wouldnt see it having any negative effects on the engine only because the pipe you ran isnt that big and im whilling to bet it isnt forcing much more air into the intake than it was previously getting. Probably just getting some cooler air now which will of course make it run better.

i believe as long as you have a tuner, you can compensate for the change in air flow just fine, or in your case, guess you're not forcing too much air in it's fine too. when i first got my truck i rigged up two flexible aluminum 3 inch tubes to the same area near my tow hooks. the truck BOGGED terribly! i didn't understand why until a few weeks later when i learned about programmers on the site from other members. i removed the tubes and went back to stock for now. i also tried running with NO tubes (just the filter wide open in the top), ran about the same, but sounded pretty fierce!

Why? His engine would have to be submerged for any water to reach the top of the engine since the hose inlet is down by the tow hooks and the air is traveling up. I'd love to see how water can flow uphill.
Boombox: cool idea. I don't see any problems with it. As long as the truck is running well, that's all that matters.

If the BOTTOM of the hose is under water, the engine might not suck water (or maybe it would) BUT its not gonna be sucking air either, but thats if it is submerged.

True. If the hose is under water it would not suck air. Altho it also would not suck water in. It would probably die out if you let it idle in water for a few minutes. But when most people go through the water it is a real quick thing anyway so I wouldnt worry about it running out of air for the second or so that your intake tube is submerged

you are adding maybe forced air- but look at the restriction with those bends as well as the interior of flexible pipe isn't going to be as astraight shot as what ford had...

X2. I don't know how I missed that because it's just like in heating and air conditioning. When running pipes in a house, you want as few bends as possible because each one takes off a small percentage of flow.

definetely- thats why i detest other companies that run that flex junk- even taut. the restriction takes a 6' piece of round puipe rated at 110 cfm at .1 sp to 85 in 6" flex.-i refuse to to use that stuff in my hvac company- great opoint though

1x 90 deg bend = 10 ft of equivalent diameter pipe ...

^ That flex stuff is junk. It can't even compare to straight pipe because of those ribs every maybe 1/4" - 1/2". We have only used it in tight spots or to snake into areas where solid can't even be used. Flex junk is also even worse with flow if it gets crunched too much.

Kewl, thanx for in the input guys. I think I will take if off and swtich back to the orginal gotts mod for the winter. I took it on a road trip this weekend and on the interstate the truck runs amazing, even with having 33" NMG's I can kick it down and pass other vehicles like their standing still.
