Cat placement

I realize that the high flow 94106 is shorter than my existing cats. I assume that a small piece of pipe will be needed to take up the gap. Does it matter if that piece goes in front or after the cat? Might the placement of that piece effect the O2 reading? People at exhaust shops keep telling me that moving a cat 1/4 inch will effect the reading. I dont believe it is THAT precise but I also dont want to take chances if it matters.
Thanks

The farther forward, the more efficient the cat will be.
