air intake

Has anyone used a Spectre air intake system for a 5.4 triton engine? GOOD OR BAD?

I have one on my '05. Didn't really notice any difference, maybe 1 mpg better. Some people have had issues with intakes causing lean issues I believe but I never had that issue. It causes a lot more engine drone but I like it

Ok, here is the general info on it, but next time try the search feature of the boards.

On 04 and some/most 05 F-150 (unsure if its extends to F-250's) with the 5.4L 3V engine, a CAI with out a programmer is a bad idea.

The reason is that in 04 and 05 the trucks rolled out of the factory with a near lean or a lean condition, some trucks where already running too lean with out any changes to the stock air box.

Now in 06 they where supposed to have toned the problem down and by 07 I think its not a problem.

Most people here say (me too personally if you have a 04-05) that CAI is a really bad idea w/o a tuner and custom tunes.

Now if you have a 06+, I figure you *might* not have a problem, however its still in the best interest for you to get a programmer and custom tunes.

I ran my 06 for almost two months before I got my custom tunes, and I did not have any problems, that does not mean that you won't or will.

Now some people prefer the gotts mod to the stock/factory intake setup, but others like me prefer the way the after market CAI's look and sound, my AEM does have quite the drone as well as making a good amount of noise under load or heavy throttle.

Now its possible for the truck to be in a lean state stock, and in a dangrously lean state with a CAI and not throw a CEL or SES light.

The only way to see what the A/F raito of your truck is, would be to go and dyno it.

now if you are waiting on custom tunes, you could used the canned gryphon level 2 tow while you wait, just try not to go WOT.
