8 years or 80k for cat work?
Called a local shop today to have my magnaflow cats put on... He said by law he isn't allowed to touch the cats until 8 years or 80,000 miles. I hung up the phone. But is that true? Its the first time I've heard that, even after reading this forum for hours and hours.... at work
They just make stuff up most of the time. Local shop around here told me they couldn't do true duals because i would need 2 cats, 2 o2 sensors just seperate stuff for each pipe, when I told him it already has that, he said it's a federal offense to touch a y pipe. Federal tampering law he called it
Yeah alot of shops will just give you the run around. The shop I got my muffler installed at said he wouldnt do cats. So Im either gonna find another one or ask my friends dad to do it for me. It is good to know people haha.
Per the emissions warranty pushed by the government Ford warranties their vehicles emissions systems up to 8 years/80,000 miles, sounds like he just does not want to violate a factory warranty until that time is up.
I see....
He just called me back. He said he would "take a look at it." But couldn't understand why I would want hi flow cats on such a new truck. Watch and learn my friend.... you shall see.

In Missouri where I live I think it is state law "I swear to god it is!"-{Donny Baker}that if you have OVER 100xxx on your cats then you can legally remove/replace them w/ factory or a high-flow ones. I might be wrong so somone if they know for sure what MO state law says reguarding this please feel free to correct me.
when I first called the shop that doing my true duals next week, he said he couldn't cut the factory "Y" because he couldn't alter the factory configuration. After I told him who I was and he remembered me from past business, he changed his story. He then said that as long as what we were doing was "cat-back" work, then he would do the true duals. Maybe he thought I was the fuzz or something. lol.
LMFAO... I think most any shop would take the business if you were to say they were broken. From my understanding, its not uncommon for a shop to make it look like they got all beaten up and damaged. Do shops have to show the old Cats to someone for inspecting when they are removed, somehow I think I recall being told that.
