Boost Brother Headers Clearance Issue
Boost Brother Headers Clearance Issue
Hey guys, I started to install these headers on my 07 FX4, got the drivers side in and saw how hard the passenger side was going to be... took the truck to shop and had them install the passenger side. Problem is the clearance to the shock tower is 1/16" from what I hear over the phone. I told him to just put everything back together and I'll deal with it if it hits.
One scenario I could do is jack the motor up a bit and bend the header in slightly to gain clearance. Which I'd rather not do.
I also do not want to notch the tower.
Have any of you guys ran into this issue? Boost Brothers says they are within the tollerances of the JBA headers.

I've had this problems a few times on mustangs. We had some interference problems with the frame/pipes when you nailed the gas with new motor mounts and a set of big custom headers. I bent the questionable tubes in a little bit with a torch and a big pry bar. The motor put up the same ridiculous numbers as before on the dyno.
Just bend the tube a little bit...

I just ran into this same problem with my install on my 05 FX4 today. After the PITA it was to install i noticed it after lowering the motor back down. Guess i'll wait and see how it works out and if need be i;ll take a torch, heat it up and bend it in a little. But i;ve been working on my truck for a week now changing the cam phasers, installing the headers, putting in new plugs (only 2 broke) and putting in new Grannatelli COPs. Can't wait to get running again.
boost bros. = ****
I haven't bent mine in yet. Lazy I guess. The vibration that started out small has gotten worse... maybe it'll go away?!? Haha I doubt it. It's just in a weird place once they are installed to get a pry bar on. Maybe one of these days.
What we have to do sometimes on header installs is get a torch and heat up the pipes. Then we stick a pry bar in the collector and give them a little extra bend. Vibration could also be the pipes hitting on the transmission cross memeber.
Just an update on my headers in case you care. Mine have been on awhile now, not very happy. seems they are leaking quite a bit, but haven't had time to get under there, also, the rubbing on the frame is just plain annoying. at this point i may put my manifolds back on instead of trying to fix these. Not worth the time involved to take the passsenger side completely off, bend and reinstall only to have them leak. Hope your situation ended up better than mine.

I sold the truck... but before I did I ended up bending in the tube that was touching with a torch. And replacing the gasket on the other side with a FelPro. Everything worked out... but the company in still garbage.
