Question 02 extensions

Im installing pacesetter LT's on my 06' 4.6L this week and im a little tripped up. Am i gonna need one or two sets of 02 extensions? Its seems different headers and cats require different length extensions. Should i just get two sets to be safe... Regardless of the extensions this looks like its gonna be quite a chore.

Thanks for the help in advance!

These are the only extensions i could find... it seems like they will work. http://rpmoutlet.com/gmo2s.htm

Can anyone verify?

Why would you pay $20+ when you can DIY for 5$?

Didn't want to make a new thread, and nobody answered, so...

How many sets of O2 extensions are needed for the header install? BTW I'm looking at OBX LT's possibly (I have an exhaust manifold leak, so it's time to do LT's with high flows).

Stealth, -I wouldn't recommend extensions, since the O2's are so wire sensitive. It's to easy to get a weak connection and not know it. Your connection has to be about flawless for this sensor to work perfectly. I've had problems with just one connection in the past, -two connections isn't advised. Even after you clean it once, you may have to do it again, - it's that sensitive. It is very very important this connection is perfect, if you want both banks preforming the same and at their best.

Soldering - You can do this, BUT, O2 wires are not copper. Their either stainless or aluminum. I've done this as well. You clean the wires (if you touched after strip), spreading them for merge and weave, then solder using Rosin Core Solder. The problem (if your not that familiar with): Rosin Core Solder alone will not weave by itself into this type wire and adhere or affix properly. It's necessary to use additional flux to assist, the solder alone doesn't have the content necessary. So,- you can use Rosin Core solder w/Rosin Core Flux for a locked connection. It's just needs that little extra to weave. You can purchase both at a electronics supply store, like Radio Shack.

The only possible problem with soldering after done correctly,- you create a resistance gate when adding to a section of run (wire). I can't say IF this changes things substantial enough. - Just that it does,- change things.

To avoid the possibles above entirely, just purchase the correct O2's for LT's. Oriely's sells them with the correct length harness. Take a measurement and purchase the O2's with the right harness length.

Keep in mind. In the book, harness length is measured goofy. To elaborate, the measure given IS NOT the harness alone. It's the entire part, including length of sensor and connector lol. Not kidding, we figured that out on the counter top @ Oriely's.

Bosch has the correct sensors and harness length needed for LT's, I believe I went with the 14's.

So basically you are saying aftermarket extensions will fail? Since the o2's are so sensitive then why do they even have connectors on the harnesses from the factory? Not being a smartass, just trying to learn.

1. No, you increase your chances for problems, could be immediate or in the future.
2. So you can replace them.
3. Yes you are

Wouldn't stock connector type O2 extensions work? I don't see how there would be a problem.

Go for it man, I was just tryin to help you out. The more breaks (connect/disconnects) you have in a run (line), the more vulnerable it is.

The correct sensor/harness for that set up probably isn't much more than extenders.

Enjoy your new pipes.
