Noisy cai??

Ok I bought a cheaper CAI on ebay due to my factory intake tube being broken...I put it on last night and drove it for the first time today....It whines pretty loud except under hard acceleration, like a wind whistle type whine. I got under the hood as soon as I got home thinking a clamp must have looseded up under heat, all of the ring clamps were a little loose so I tightened them and drove aound the block an no change....is this irritating whine just part of it?

Most will be louder. Don't get me wrong but you mite find something wrong but don't worry if you don't. That is half of the reason the stock air boxes are designed like they are, to quiet engine noises.

I can handle a drone but the belt whining whistling noise does not sound right to me....I have never heard an intake make this kind of noise on the videos I have seen....

Sounds to me like you have a leak... I have a cheap ebay, and it is almost as quiet as my stock intake.

Thats what I am thinking but I cannot find it...I have double and triple check everything....How can I find it if all my fittings are tight and seem to be installed correctly.....

ah ha! Starting fluid! Spray it down, if there is a leak the motor will rev and the leak has been found!

Me and my neighbor starting messing with it tonight and started hearing some weird chirping noises from the belt area....Also what is the vacuum hose coming from the passenger side valve cover that plugs into the intake just before the throttle body? There is just some strange stuff going on and I am not sure if the intake has anything to do with it but it sounds like to us that the loud annoying whistling noise is coming from the air filter area, is there something that is being restricted that is causing this? Like I said before about the chirping noise we herd that but that is a different sound then what I hear when I am driving the truck and I hear the loud whistling sound....Maybe I should just say "F" the CAI and go back to stock....

Anyone got a cheap tuner for sale!!!!

"F" the CAI....Last night while trying to determine what was making the god awful belt squealing noise on acceleration my brakes started going soft on me (not while I was driving) but while I was sitting in the driveway with teh truck in gear trying to determine where the leak was..... then my morot started making some kind of chriping noise....I took it off befroe work this morning and put the stock intake back on, well my gotts intake mod and no strange noises no chirping my brakes are fine....CAI's not worth it my opinion...I know many members on here just say do the gotts intake and get a tuner, but then others say they got a CAI and they love it....oh well I am out $90 and now have a brand new CAI in my garage to look at....

Hey anyone need a CAI? I might know where to find one for cheap....

cheap CAI's will whistle because the tubing and joints aren't as smooth as the big dollar ones. Rough surfaces, protrusions, poorly trimmed plastic pieces, etc. can all cause additional noise. Also the lack of R&D means that the angles/bends used are just the most convenient for fit/cost and not the best for velocity and noise reduction. Small changes in angles can make a large difference on an intake.

^ I disagree completely. I love mine, and it was $80. No noise at all.
OP - That vac house is for your PCV valve.

Is yours a kool vue or something like that? Mine just made a horribly loud noise except during WOT, I sounded like that guy driving down the road who needs a new belt and everyone stops and makes and awful face when he drives by.....anyway after I put is on and messed with it for a while I thought maybe its just coincidence that something else was about to go out on my truck like a pulley or the belt or something, so I thought let me put the stock intake (gotts) back on and if it still sounds like S#$t then I know it just something else about to go out....however I put the stock intake back on this morning and it sounds great no squeal no chirping....nothin...

Nope I only had it on for a day, I could not stand the noise it was making....The only thing not in the pic was the heat shield and the bracket to support the tube going across the front.....Does this look like yours? Everything seem to be there?
