cutting muffler out??
iv been running a straight pipe in replacement of my muffler for 45k miles. no issues. sounds good too it isnt overly loud like you would think. everyone always asks what kinda muffler i have lol u can tell its not stock at idle but it is pretty quiet still. it screams at WOT tho
yeah, my truck had 4 cats and no mufflers when i bought it 37k ago, and i talked to the guy before me and he said he had no mufflers on it when he got it so that's about 60kmiles total with no mufflers and no problems. my tips got bent when i backed up into my buddies truck so i hacked it half way under the truck and to me it sounds a lot better then before. but i'm planning on going 3'' from the Y back with a 3" bullet and dumping it. Migs exhaust sounds pretty badass with this set up but his exits on the side in front of the passenger tire. I'm still debating if i want to also delete the rear cats, or all 4, trying to figure out how the sound will change by doing that over leaving all 4 cats in.
Just to let you know.. our year modle trucks 99-03s have 4 cats and this quiets things down alot. I put on a 14inch maggie and i was suprised at how quiet it was. Dont worry about being too loud with stock cats
i just did this (cutting stock muffler off behind cats) to my 97 2wd Supercab with the 4.6/5-speed and i think it sounds great. my buddy has a 99 4wd S/C with the 5.4/auto and all 4-cats with dual super 10s and he actually kinda likes the way mine sounds more...lol. goes to show ya you don't always have to spend more money to get better sound...
