it would be beneficial but not required as you have a 2 valve motor, look into the "gotts intake mod"

Hey db5 I have a 99 f150 w/4.6 just put on a Spectre CAI and I have no tuner. Works perfect had a air leak at one of the clamps but retightened and no squeal anymore. 179.00 at autozone for the stainless one, gave me a very noticeable difference in passing power and also in fuel mileage no exact numbers yet but i guess anywhere from 2-4mpg.

Under 20?????? Unless your talking bout the mod on the stock box! Might work the same but I'll stick with the aftermarket and dont know about better performing but with the gains the spectre got me i have no problems with $179, I'll make it back in fuel mileage in no time.

the gotts mod will out perform the "hot air" intakes like the spectre, but I'm glad you're happy with your choice

Definately not a waste of money, my gas mileage gain is well worth it alone not to forget about the added performance!!!

the spectre is a poor design. All the sharp bends are restrictive and do not flow well as compared to one gradual bend.

Ahh the infamous "butt dyno" and "gut feel" MPG meter.

How the heck can you compete with that?

Well here's the numbers (a.. dyno and gut feel)!!! With cold air intake and exhaust system (don't know if exhaust helped but was changed also) went from 16.8mpg to 20.2mpg city/hwy driving. And yes no dyno numbers but since I drive the truck daily I should be the one able to tell if it has more pep, and yes it does. So compete with that smart a..!!!

And just wondering what sharp bends your talking about??? Cause this intake has none. Stainless tubing flows the same as a k&N.

The 2 bends you see on it. You see you that last one going into the throttlebody, thats a sharp bend

Your increased mileage is from warmer temperatures, your truck warms up faster and you enter closed loop fuel trims earlier

Hello all! How are you fine fellows today?

^^ I 110% agree wth Mr.Gotts. ^^

Mr. Thaus, sir ... you really are starting to sound like the ******* in this here thread ( no, not me, the other ******* ):==> https://www.f150online.com/forums/ex...etty-good.html.

You probably don't want to do that, and I think you can be above that, as these fellers are right. Oh, BTW, that intake is aluminum tubing, which is the absolute worst material for this task for it's thermal conductivity properties.

Have a Good day, everyone!
