Catalytic Converter problem, P0420

About a week and a half ago I noticed my truck making a disturbing noise underneath the truck, sounding like metal banging up against metal.. after a few days, the noise stopped and then my check engine light came on... I went to go get it checked and it gave me this code p0420, catalyst efficiency below threshold for bank 1... am guessing it is my cat... am thinking of getting one from a junk yard,, I went to go check out the local autoparts stores and no one carries it... except NAPA AUto parts, which they gave me a quote of $509 for that.... has anyone replaced one of these???

what do ya suggest??

my truck only has 60,XXXmiles

I would check with your dealer. Emissions related items are under warranty up to 80k I believe. Your owners manual should confirm this.

take it to the dealer i just had mine replaced with 25k on it. it took a week and a half to get it. emissions should be covered to either 80 or 100k. make sure to remove any programmer prior to taking it in...

High Fuel Pressure
Damaged exhaust manifold
Damaged catalytic converter
Oil contamination
Cylinder misfiring
Downstream HO2S wires improperly connected

I am leaning more towards the catalytic converter on that... also today my 6th cylinder misfired.. I saw my check engine light flash and got it checked and they gave me those 2 codes, p0420 & p0306

..I'll get that checked out at the dealer, I am a second owner of this truck, bought it used @ 35500, just hit 60k .. thanks for all the help!

The truck drives like normal. It does have the diesel sound though that many have. So I don't know if this has anything to do with it

The federal emissions warranty is 8 years or 80k, the only way it won't be covered is if it was first put in service prior to today's date in 2006.
