CAI and Custom tune worth the extra money?
CAI and Custom tune worth the extra money?
Hey guys i have found a ton of great information on why not to put a CAI alone on my 2004 5.4 3v. And also if i want to get a CAI what tuner and tunes to get but here is my question. I am not trying to race my truck i just find it sluggish after installing a leveling kit and these heavy 35" mud tires. I drive 200 miles to work every week and feel that if it had just a little more pep that i could cut back on alot of the downshifting she does while on cruise and just overal drive better. I drove a good friends truck just like mine but 33" tires vs 35" with a (not to join the arguments but) a K&N CAI and a canned tune from a superchips programmer with over 200,000 miles and i really like the extra get up it has. I am pretty much set on buying a programmer. But for the differance is it even worth spending another $300 on a CAI and getting the recommended custom tune. I mean do yall think just a edge evolution will be what i am looking for or do i need to jump all the way in and get the intake and custom tune. Thanks for the help. O yeah if it makes a differance i have a drop in K&N filter and the muffler removed with duels ran from there back.

Get custom tunes. They are worth the money and then do the intake mod in the How To section. A custom tuned Xcal3 or Gryphon is not that much more than canned tunes.
