Cat opperating temps?

I did a search on this but got nothing really useful. This is in regards to the cats on a 98 4.6 with about 160k on the clock.

This is a question for anyone who's ever measured the operating temps of their cats before.

I've been trying to run down a loss of power/mileage problem and I'm looking at the cats now. I picked up a non contact thermometer tonight and took some measurements tonight but I think I screwed up so I'll be testing them again tomorrow.

1. If you've tested yours before what temps are you getting at the inlet and outlet?

2. For my inlet measurement should I be measuring at the inlet of the precat (front) or the inlet of the rear (main) cat only?

3. What kind of temp delta should I be looking for? Does the standard 100F delta work for these motors?

If I've missed anything I need to know to test these accurately please chime in. Thanks in advance.
