MAGNAFLOW #16523 on 09 f150(thoughts?)

Hey fellas im looking at the magnaflow cat back listed above, im looking to get some feedback and see what you think. At this point im just doing exhaust if nothing else but to get rid of that tiny a## stock pipe on my 09 stx
i dont know if i will do any other exhaust mods because i cant seem to track down headers for the 09 4.6l and i dont know if and when it will be avaliable,

back to the point magnaflow catback share your wisdom the good the bad and the ugly. thanks in advance.

Hey Dirty,

I think you should save your money on that throttle body spacer. I dont think theres ever been a HP gain. It just sounds cool. Just an . Im sure other members will chime in. Everything else sounds good though.

Black, you're right. Everything I've ever read about the TBS is pretty much a waste of dollars best spent on some chrome accents or something else.

Any Maggie will do your truck good. CAIs... are nice to haves but unless you open up the intial intake you're not really pulling a whole lot more air than stock. Also, how hot they get and how fast the air moves through it depends on the material of the tubing. Tuners? Take your pick... BullyDog, Edge, Gryphon, etc...

I would go with Volant, they seem to get the most without doing a full on Gotts mod but I had heard that the 2009s+ seem to come with a pretty good intake and layout. I can't say I've seen one so I wouldn't know.

I went with Magnaflow #16518 on my 09 5.4.I did not go with a CAI due to the positive rev iews on my factory set-up.Overall I am happy with how the system sounds and functions. There is some drone between 1500 and 2000 rpm but it is minimal. The install was easy...did it in my garage. And yes I did get rid of the cheap chrome tailpipe....

Hey fellas thanks for allthe feedback, to be honest the with the tbs it was more for me than the truck, i like the way they sound in conjunction with a cold air intake and im pretty sure they dont hurt any thing so for a hundred bucks and little of my time its cool.

once installed should i have the maggie welded?

and as far as the tuners go they are al comprable on performance and price, what do you have and what are the pros and cons?

^ If you plan on keeping it, then ya, get it all welded in.

Edge tuner is great!

I purchased an Edge Evolution turner for 2005, Screw, 5.4l, and love it. I've been able to tow with it, go for maximum gas mileage, set it for max. horsepower. I've also used it to adjust my automatic trans. shifts when I climb over the mountain passes. The Edge turner is easy to use, easy to install, and easy to change programming for what you want. Plus there are literally thousands of ways to make other mods that I'm sure I will never use. Plus I changed the tire size to match the Goodyear Duratrack 285/70 x17 that I'm running on the truck. I also did the "gotts" mod that everyone talks about. It was very simple and added a noticeable amount of horsepower. All it took was about a 12" piece of 3" ABS pipe, some flat black paint and a 3.5" diameter radiator clamp (plus a little filing on the pipe). Finally, I'm running the 16523 Magnaflow pipe cat-back. It was easy to install and I disagree with welding it since once its welded, the weld makes for a sure spot to rust. I clamped mine with the factory clamps and it is perfect and sounds great.

SCOTT thanks man i really appriciate the insight, i talked to the other scott at superchips and he said they should have a program on the cortex for my truck with a cai and exhaust. im not sure if i want to do the long tubes yet my truck only has 3k on it i bought it the first of march in 09 and i deployed the end of april and i wont get home till may.

i do want the cai and cat back and a tune to match it all up plus a tbs for the sound ... im so jealous of you guys that get to drive your trucks every day. i need out of the desert.
