gotts mod VS Airaid MIT???

I was originally looking into the K&N CAI (not the 77 series, the plastic one) but then I came across the gotts mod and was impressed, as well as the Airaid MIT, which is cheap and essentially the same thing. so my question is in yalls opinion which would be better.... the gotts (with any silencer inside the tube removed) or the Airaid MIT? also is it necessary to reset the comp via disconnecting the batt? (dont wanna reprogram the radio lol)

also my truck is the 2006 5.4 with true dual 2.5 in and qtp cut outs
factory cats and soon to have shorty headers (purely for sound) and php programmer. perhaps efans too, idk yet. so any thoughts on the intake is appreciated.

Gotts mod=5-12
Airaid mit=60-120
Definate price difference.
Gotts mod allows the retention of the hem-holtz silencers on the stock intake tube they help silence droning.
You may have issues with droning using the airaid mit.
You really don't need to reset the computer but some do.

ok, i want the drone either way, i was just mostly curious if i would get enough out of the mit to be worth the extra price, and either way its still a lot cheaper than a traditional cai.

Gotts or a real CAI. Gotts is the best value.

So, is it better to leave the silencer in or better to take it out?

I got a used CAI from a member here, it is a AEM brute force intake, and along with my SI/DO exhaust, the truck is PLENTY loud when you are on the long pedal, but as soon as you let up or pick a cruising speed, the noise is minimal, some times if you catch it just right, ( btw I hate the level 3 tune with my gryphon ) the exhaust picks up, until 2,100-2,200 rpm, then the CAI drones VERY loud from 2,200-2,500 then its exhaust again, so loud that the pedals and wheel shake some, you can really feel the vibrations, and as my truck is normally in that range during daily use ( normal days 3K rpms is high as I go most of the time ) its a blast to drive, and almost everyone has noted how good the truck sound when I drive by or when they ride with me.

P.S
I out ran a new ford SUV the other day, I feel bad cause I ran the truck so hard, I am pretty sure it was a edge, I pulled it about 1/2 of my truck, on it, and they beat me at the light.

So - are you saying you like the intake droning. Most tend to bitch about it These trucks do have atendency to resonate in that 1800-2200 rpm region - one reason for the design of that stock intake (separately tuned helmholtz chambers).

The MIT, like the Gotts, does not interfere with the MAF region. Hence, in most cases, barring any pre-existing issues, they are okay to run.

Neither produces any significant gains - again partly due to the existing and predominant restriction in the vicinity of the MAF venturi.

The MIT, unlike the Gotts, draws air from directly behind/slightly below the driver-side headlight. I suppose IAT's are still nominal, at speed, and may be slightly higher at idle. Note that, after prolonged idling/stop & go, heat-soak causes IAT's to rise regardless of intake type. That's unavoidable.

MIT does clean up the engine bay though. So - a wash, really, excluding the cost difference.

I love the drone, its B/A!! would not have it any other way, goes with the exhaust nicely!

according to the gryphon, my IAT is 5-10 degrees higher sitting at a light then the outside air temp, and same of lower than outside temp at 50+

Remove the silencer (removable tube that extends into the fender well) and replace it with a 3 inch pipe. Should only cost you $15 if you go to Home Depot. Like MGD said, neither will net you an awe inspiring amount of power, but for $15, you can't really complain.

Okay!

FYI - IAT's cannot go any lower than ambient. It's not physically possible. There is no super-cooling going on here. I suspect your ambient temp reading to be a little higher than actual given where it is located...

so i went a head and did the gotts, ehh sorta. i cut off all of the baffles or what ever and made it just a solid tube(more like the mit) and then i used some 3.5 id thin wall rubber tubing i had and ran that from the end into the fender. i can haven driven far enough to tell any mpg increase or not. nor can i hear any drone but that might be because i have qtp cutouts under the cab and i run it with them oped 90% of the time (needs headers though, its still not loud enough)
