1997 extended cab 4.6L exhaust?

I searched but didn't find what I was looking for. My stock exhaust exits in front of my pass rear tire. Looks OEM to me. Does anyone make a cat back kit for my truck? I'm not looking to make her noisey. I really like the quite ride compared to my 95 Lightning. That thing was great but man the noise level made me wanna blow my brains out after a while. My main goal is to make it look better and maybe breath a little better. I def don't want to loose any low end power. Any ideas/info would help. If no one makes anything I'll just make something up myself but that is a very last resort.

Any catback should work that's made for 97-03 F150s I think...maybe not if it was made for a supercrew - would have to check on that. Magnaflow makes some catback kits and they're not too loud at all; listen to the link in my sig for an example of the Magnaflow kit. A full catback kit is pretty dang expensive though - my kit would've been around $550 had I bought it new, but I found it used for much much less.

Thats how the trucks came from factory, with the exit in front of the rear tire. Im not sure on the cat-back but if you get a 18" magnaflow and a nice 3.5" or 4" tip it would look good and sound good.

I was leaning towards magnaflow. Will the 3.5" or 4" make a difference in low end power loss? She is old now and has 169,000 on her. I'll most likely geet the 18" magnaflow and a single 3.5". Do you guys think it will hurt my low end any? Thanks again for your help.

Both the 3.5" and 4" mufflers are pretty big...I forget what the inlet size is, but I'm thinking 2.5" or (at most) 3". Mine came with the 4" tip.

Thanks, 2.5" will probably be fine. I'm not looking for perfection. I really just don't like the stock tailpipe. It looks like a snork... I'm going to check out just changing the tailpipe and leaving the stock muffler.

The only reason I would say redo your whole exhuast is because if you haven't had to have it replaced yet, the time will probably be here eventually as the truck is now 13 years old. I would get a 18" magnaflow 3" si/so muffler and have a shop weld it up with a new tailpipe. There will be a nice power increase it it will have a mild performance tone.

Good thinking. I'll go under and see how bad it really is and probably change it all. I know if I don't I'll wind up having to do it when I don't have the cash.

I had my stock exhaust up until last year and it wasn't rusted that bad. I see you live in NY so you have plenty of salt on the roads, more then we get here in New Jersey so yours might be worse then mine. If your going to change your tailpipe it would be worth it to just get a new muffler so you won't have to deal with it again for another 13 years.
